I saw an article lately that said that in addition to shrinking attention spans & less reading among younger people, critical thinking skills are eroding (and/or are never being built in the first place). Not good re: voting & many other things.
Most Republicans don't want that because of their child has critical thinking they'll see how shit the parents are, they'd also be jealous of their children for being smarter and having a spine.

School teaches you what to think, not how to think. If they taught you how to think, you would become a threat to everyone in authority. Those in authority don't want that.
Correction, my entire 30+ year teaching career was based on teaching and enhancing critical thinking skills. I had many colleagues that had the same mission.
I obviously agree that CT skills are paramount to a strong population. These skills seem to be dormant.
Then you are truly doing the work that needs to be done. I hope you and those who are also teaching these skills will continue to do so and all of your students will recognize the value of not only learning them but using them throughout their lives.
Trump represents America. They voted for him because he is relatable and speaks what they are thinking. About 60% of Americans read and do math at the sixth-grade level. So what do you expect? Instead of being anti-intellectual, we need to support hard-working, educated people.
