Below are my senior students’ speaking score breakdowns on AAPPL Form B, 2024 & 2025. Question #1: Why almost no scores of I2 or I3? Someone on Twitter last yr noticed same score trend but I can’t find the post! Thoughts??? #langchat

I believe it comes down to how the raters rate each prompt & then how those individual ratings turn to final scores. They don't use I1, I2, etc. in the rating process & they don't evaluate the whole student but rather each prompt. It has to be a mix to end as I2-I3 https://www.languagetesting.com/aappl-faqs
1 thing to keep in mind is that Int prompts are only scored on how intermediate they are, adv on how advanced they are. If students are getting I1, I2, I3, only listen to the 3 intermediate, not the advanced.
I think it can be a mix. Raters aren't supposed to worry about how it's calculated, but I THINK if all or 2 of the adv prompts only show some evidence of advanced, then it can be I4 and if all int responses fully meet int, then it's also I4.
