YEAH!! They are made with a certain kind of crafting magic the members of his commune learn from the dragon's that protect his home. These braids grow with the hair and get short if wanted to. They are unbreakable unless you cut them and break the bond.

They usually have different meanings. Most of Njal's braid mean a special sibling bond or a bond to his parents. The parents are usually the firsts to braid their kids hair. After that the grandparents and then the siblings if they already are able to do those braids. Later on, a lover does one. ☺️💕

He's got one braid from Fenn once though it was not magically made and got cut off by Njal's bbeg. But Fenn rebraided it. Njal also braided Fenn's hair. (That's why Fenn has one braid with wooden pearls in them.)
