When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.
Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.
Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"

Until you consider
Who gets to be a scientist? What questions are pursued? What answers are accepted? What findings are implemented?
All of these things are political. And so too is denying that they impact on how we understand the world
"Advances in AI tech are great & will really help humankind."
"What about deep-fake videos & misinformation on a truly global scale?"
"Yeah, erm...that's not my area of expertise. I'm just here for the fluffy unicorn generators & the cutesy personalized digital gift cards. They're fab!"
Like, so much of what brings people into hospitals is inequality, lack of community service provision, and stress.
