It seems to me the other significant difference between 2016 and 2024 is that 2016 experienced a strong El niño whereas that was not the case in 2024.

2016 was due to emission from 2000 (Bill Clinton)? 2024 is due to emissions from 10-20 years ago (Barack Obama). Going forward we should expect acceleration given emissions of the past and given that we will break new GHG records until 2030 (IEA).
