LOL. Was speaking about the history of Puerto Rican baseball and mentioned how much it upset me that Puerto Rican press used to call Toothpick Sam "Sad Sam", who had been retired for decades. The type of non-sequiturs that only huge baseball nerds like us go into. Thank God for this in these times.

To be honest, sometimes I look at pictures of Toothpick Sam and think, "In fairness, he does have something of a sad look about him." Conversely, Suitcase Simpson seems more like a briefcase or messenger bag guy.

Me too. He has a hangdog look. I also am not sure the Puerto Rican press was aware of Sad Sam, so not sure why he was nicknamed that. Suitcase Simpson should have been the original The Brow. That man had glorious proto-Etchebarren eyebrows.
