Tiny keyboard. Tiny screen. Not portable. While you could get much more portable laptops or much more comfortable desktops second hand so no wasted resources. But less overpriced hype for sure.

In this particular case it's replacing an aged desktop, a laptop wouldn't have the same choice of keyboard, screen and mouse placement - unless you went for an expensive tablet & keyboard combo.
Screen size is not an issue due to not wanting too large a screen for eyesight issues.

I could, but my family member wanted something similar to their existing W7 desktop and the default PI OS does that well enough with minimal tweaks.
