The big centrepiece dish is a tower of stuffed vine leaves topped with lamb. There is fattoush (a type of salad), kibbeh (kind of like lamb croquettes), labneh (yogurt dip), rice. My brother's wife and her sister made it all from scratch!
Yes, my brother's wife spent most of the day cooking, so that it would be ready when the sun went down. All the more impressive that she didn't taste-test anything while cooking & yet it was all extremely delicious - I always have to taste as I cook!
I don't know what any of these are but I'd 100% stuff my face in it. Well, as long as there's enough for everyone and I'd put the food in my plate first and thank the hosts for having me and sharing.
There’s a lot of evidence to suggest fasting for 12+ hours a day helps the body heal. Eating that dinner in the picture would definitely improve my dimensions!
I made this that looks like the beautiful round dish on the right.
Probably totally different, but it’s a typical Dutch dessert.
I love to cook and bake so always interestedi new things.
Thank you.
Oh wow, it looks so similar but must taste very different - ours is a savory dish with minced lamb at the bottom! If you google "kibbeh bil sanieh" you might be able to find some recipes for it in English or Dutch!
Haha, yes totally different!
Mine is called “gevuld speculaas” it’s like a cardamom spice cake filled with almond paste.
Yours sounds good. I’ll check it out, thanks! 🧡
My brother's wife, who was fasting, spent the whole day preparing the food. All the more impressive that she didn't taste a drop of it while cooking. It's more than we could all eat today - some of it will be reheated for other iftars, tomorrow and through the week.
I was in a pub in East London tonight when the barmaid offered the customers free pakora which had been handed in by Muslim neighbours opposite the pub for Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak!

I'm sorry if my question is ignorant. I'm truly just curious.
Thank you for sharing.
My wife has a plan of the cutting :)
Ramadan Mubarak.
