In the rush to have a worthwhile discussion if Gen AI is reclaimable for leftists, people miss one of its biggest dangers to art—homogenization. It cranks out status quo narratives, reinforcing hegemonic ideals as it flattens expression. The danger isn’t JUST workforce automation—it’s normalization.

I attended an AI event a few years ago. One speaker was talking about AI in music production. He said we (America? Humanity?) had reached a "post-scarcity" point in available music. AI produced music is all consumers would need.
That's their fundamental flaw. Lack of imagination and human empathy.

to that point on lack of imagination/empathy, they seem to believe art is only as valuable as the end result (pretty pictures/sounds), not the time, effort, community and humanity that creates it and the dialogue that surrounds it.

Siloing the creation of art by removing creator from both process and community even further isolates us all from one another.

It silences our collective voices, reduces our collective power, and alienates us from each other by limiting our emotional vocabulary. It's anti-empathy, anti-humanity. Art solely as commodity; not sharing parts of the human experience, but selling easily censored "content" to passive consumers.
