i feel you and i agree with you in principle, but for me personally google is pushing me. esp. considering their practices regarding data mining and privacy.

Same. I may not completely stop my spending on these mega brands, but I can significantly cut back. And every dollar I don't give to Google, Amazon, etc is a dollar I can spend in my local community instead.
