I'm so happy a friend's father loaned me Discworld books in high school, and I read about Vimes and Granny Weatherwax. Taught me the lesson that injustice isn't beaten by pandering to it, or accepting the status quo. You win by grabbing a big stick and beating the ever living fuck out of tyranny.

I like to describe myself as kind but not necessarily nice. I will do what is kind for someone and do what needs to be done, but I may not be nice while doing it.

This was the hardest lesson for me. Learning how to respect boundaries, set boundaries, make other people respect my boundaries, and then tell them to get bent when they didn't was a whole 4-step process and multi-decade journey. I'm really proud of everyone who figured this out faster than I did.
