I find it funny the way religious texts are the only types of texts treated as having no actual meaning or message of their own and “interpretation” is seen as seen this magical alchemy that can draw whatever meaning you want out of them.

Imagine if people talked about Das Kapital like this. Or Atlas Shrugged. Or any other piece of writing. Hell, even straight up fiction is never treated like this.

It’s especially ironic since those are the only texts that purport to be self justifying and ontologically true. The postmodernist defense of religion precludes any defense of a given religion on its own terms.
I have at least some respect for regular religious people or even fucking conservatives because they at least treat the text they supposedly revere on its own terms and try to find what it’s communicating instead of the pomo “rorschach test” approach lol.
