According to https://Congress.gov, this bill (HR 3003) was introduced in the House on 4/28/23, was “referred to the Committee on House Administration and in addition to the Committee on Ways and Means, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker”. Is this what we should focus on right now?

Sounds good but since 401(k)s and pensions are tied to the financial market this will be virtually impossible. Now, if they implement the Martha standard and started prosecuting them for maybe possibly having information, I could go for it.

Congress has the Thrift Savings Plan which lets them invest like a 401(k). They don't have to own individual stocks.

Could perhaps open up some broad mutual funds that cover the US/Intl markets - incentivizes them to make policy for a strong economy rather than game individual stocks for gain.

Yes. Pelosi could have gotten this done more than once. It’ll never happen as the the obvious conflict of interest. When you benefit significantly from no law, you are highly unlikely to make one. So many ways to get very rich in DC once you get elected. Insider trading.

Yeah it's hard to get the rule makers to make rules for themselves.

Term limits is the other I'd like to see. 2 terms. Maybe 3. Then go do something else. No more benchwarming or holding a seat for 25, 30 years. 12-18 is plenty to make your impact and then make room for fresh ideas.

Yep, then it’s on to expand SCOTUS and term limits for them. Until the Citizens United decision is limited by law I also suggest all members of SCOTUS and Congress wear a sash while doing their work that includes names of every donor or Brand that exceeds 10K. Transparency!

I am okay with a ban on individual stocks, but maybe they could still invest in select large U.S. index funds like the S&P 500 to incentivize them to boost the entire U.S. economy? Would this be more palatable to congress people?
