2/2 Some of the solution providers' infrastructure requirements are claimed to be less than $15mm/mile, which is less 1/20th the cost of light rail.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen but it certainly should be explored.

I disagree. With the spatial requirements reduced to 1/2 of that of a car, reduced following distance (or hive abilities) and the ability to have consistent increased travel speeds, I would argue that is more efficient.

I can guarantee you that whatever efficiencies it has in paper will be lost in real world practice with all of the shortcomings that have been hidden or not even considered. These kinds of solutions, as whole, large scale systems, have always failed spectacularly when attempted.

The problem with Victoria is the trains are nowhere near common enough (what the hell is a 30 minute headway doing??), and when they build stations there's never any guarantee that they'll also build higher density around those stations. Meanwhile in Sydney it's a given that it'll happen eventually.
