Concept is FANTASTIC - the monster biology and some of the prose about all the weird body and bit descriptions of the monster character are really fun - but plot, pacing and ending feel really messy. There's also some (to me) jarring anachronisms that took me out of the world building immersion /c - ThreadSky

It definitely has BIG "first big project" feels for better but mostly worse IMO. Will give the (male) author credit for writing a sapphic romance that didn't feel like navel gazing or fetishizing. Honestly it felt sort of boring bc of how sexless it was, but my brain's also been REAL AO3-pilled /c

Overall I would recommend it to people who want a killer audiobook narrator and who think the concept is intriguing but don't mind a mid-temperature finale. I'll be excited to see what else the author writes, but I'm not champing at any bits to read this one again. /fin

It can be difficult writing sapphic scenes without it being too tame, or too over the top. Even moreso for a guy.

I get that and I don't think writing real wet and messy, explicit sex was even a goal of this book. The author may have well been intending the characters to come off as ace-spectrum honestly based on the way their relationship is described (which is *fine* obvs, just not my personal taste lol)

Any romance is gonna be tame to me bc I've got friends over on AO3 who are writing like 10k words of the gooiest, weirdest, wildest (all positives) stuff that I've ever read for fun for FREE. But keeping things cool was definitely the purposeful choice here - just one that I was a little bored by.
