I got it from Columbia House, probably with my first penny. Among others I know I got with that penny: Screaming for Vengeance (JP), Aldo Nova. I also gave a couple to my dad, I think I got a Cream album and something else.
Searched high and low for one with the right dimensions - found that one on Amazon eventually Madeleine - we only have a small front room so this one fitted the bill. π
I know that place! That's the Royal Hotel in Bethulie, South Africa. Crazy place in the middle of nowhere with ALL the Records.

Stopped there for a night and the owner is an absolute legend. All guests are encouraged to rummage through the collection and play! He doesn't sell, unless you (a) stay the night and (b) prepared to justify why you should have that record. π€£
I have a lot of vinal records blues, jazz, 60s and 70s rock. I think i have that one. I'm going to get around to selling them. Any suggestions on the best way? My friend has suggested Etsy.
Creating an individual hifi unit used to be part of the fun of listening to your own music. Turntable, amp, tuner, tape player, cd player, speaker, headphones all usually by a different manufacturer!
Absolutely! I've gone minimal now - deck/stereo amp/speakers - tried all the gimmicks (5:1 etc) but going back to quality basics and listening to how the engineers and producers want us to hear them is brilliant. π
Wow, not seen a vinyl in so many years Jeff, think the last one I played was in the 80's - was either Logos or Hyperborea by Tangerine Dream, rather different to what you are playing, miss the crackles, it's crazy we emulate that now.
π...The #vinyl technology had moved up a few notches since the '70's - from studio to living room; the heavier gauge has ironed out most static and scratch issues but still handle them with care. An album will cost over Β£25 now though - not 17s 6d anymore π±π
Hendrix was one of the best to ever do it! Definitely the most original guitar player of his time. Every single guitar player after he came out was influenced by him if not directly then indirectly.
Since early teens Ken. The collection has followed me through several eras and homes. Limited space currently so swap the ones to hand around every now and again with many others in the loft....tried not to neglect them through all of the other music technology advances ! π
I never looked at the original collection (from '67 > ) as 'investments' just for the music. The new-wave niche market is cashing in and new pressings will become collectible I guess - at upwards of Β£25 plus they need careful handling, but the heavier gauges make them pretty robust. π
I definitely am not interested in the resale value moreso the quality of audio I hear people rave about.
I do understand where you're coming from, as an expense for something you are passionate about is not an expense at all.
But I do agree, I feel everything is getting more expensive just bc.
The new #vinyl are hifi quality now. The new pressings are unbelievable. The bastards were selling us short for years selling us paper thin records. π³π€·ββοΈπ
Well you'll need to go up a bit from a 'Β£29.99p Bush' - expect to pay at least a couple of hundred pounds; that Vestax of mine was about Β£700 in 2005. They certainly are not all the same so do a bit of research if thinking of investing. ππ
It very much depends. Do you relish the theatre of playing a record? Vinyl does that
Is it sound quality? Mainly it doesn't although it can.
A good turntable is cheaper than the equivalent streamer
I wouldn't personally go down the Vinyl route, it's too much hassle with few gains.
Yes that's a good point DM - I've only recently been buying a few #Vinyl in an attempt to use the turntable a bit more and to encourage digging through the ancient collection ...Had I not already had the gear I doubt I'd be considering a massive resurgence tbh.
My personal measure is vinyl sounds good for vinyl-era and CDs are for later music. I'm lucky that our library has a lot of old records in great condition though!
Likewise, I won't bore you with history but I'm doing my #DailyVinyl thing and it's taught me it's a very flawed medium that I certainly wouldn't be considering if I was starting out. But as I have a good TT and 600 LPs I might as well use it
Iβm a vinyl user but if starting from scratch Iβd go down the streaming route. Tidal and Qobuz at hi-resolution offers just as much as vinyl for listening experience
I got a turntable last Xmas with a couple of favourite albums
Most of my old vinyl I had given to my brother 30+ years ago as we had no space and, well, CDs π€·ββοΈ
Managed to recover a lot, not nearly all, of the old stuff and quite honestly the nostalgia of each /
crack and crackle. The memories associated with each disc. A little different sound wise as I am listening through a rather good Bluetooth speaker but playing stuff thatβs 50+ years old in some cases is almost therapeutic π
I'm the niece of Jeannie Dee ex back up singer for Ike and Tina and see has many solo albums out. She was the unfortunate victim of white washing so she left the industry unable to get her just due.
Yes that happened often (and still does I guess) in the music biz but hopefully things are getting better Charmica. Good to see you're still holding firm. ππ

Fantastic! I followed back!
We're gonna have so much fun on here! Sharing LP knowledge & love of music.
I've had that meme for years and never knew!
Vinyl blessings ππΌ

Glad they got some good quality product out to those that enjoy them.
Any recommendations on a record player, or are they all pretty similar in this day and age?
