1. Alt-right trolls/neo-nazis who have discovered that engaging with pop culture is a wildly effective recruitment tool

2. Actual / former fans who were radicalized by the former

I never understand how these folks like science fiction. It has been a liberal dream since inception: women and minorities in lead positions, sexual encounters with birth control, democratic policies in government and with new species. Shouldn’t the racists be more attracted to war genres?

Here's the thing, a lot of these people ain't fans but saw how STAR WARS was getting popular post-prequels and felt the need to project all their weird hang-ups about seeing women and POC in the entertainment. A bunch of assholes pretending to like something they likely never did.
