The real problem is that Trump, Musk, & that whole crew doesn’t respect the law, at least not to the extent that the law should apply to them, so if they have any power, they’ll take all of it. No amount of legality will stop them. Only force. That’s how fascists operate.

That's what I'm wondering. If the executive branch controls law enforcement, what are the options congress has? More media, clear assertions that these actions are illegal, withholding votes on nominees and disrupting sessions of Congress? What else is there?

Not much beside rally public opinion. And wrongly implyaing that the administration's actions are presently legal isn't going to help on that front.

Loudly pointing out that their actions are illegal would also convey that their actions are illegal.

Dems' legislative leverage here is minimal. They should gum up the works where they can, but the war has to be fought primarily on the terrain of attention and public opinion rather than procedure.
