I'm disabled, I can tell you from firsthand experience I get mistreated bc people think I'm lazy and assume I lie about my symptoms. they are jealous of what they think is me doing nothing all the time. they see me as a leech. and usually they are unhappy with themselves and take it out on me.

I don't "deserve" the same rights and to be accomodated for because I didn't "earn" it, even though that means nothing lol. folks just don't want to understand that disability is not a permanent vacation, they want that lie to feel better than someone else.

The downside of holding everyone who isn't a mediocre white man to a higher standard is that, once employed, they show up just how mediocre those men are. Of course they want to wind shit back! They can't compete unless it's stacked in their favor. They haven't had to try, ever, why would they now?

IIrc from a psych course I did a LONG time ago, humans sort themselves into their groups & others. To assign value to one's own group someone else must be lesser. When your own group is close to bottom of food chain, you have to put another group lower.

It’s because that’s not equality; it’s equity. Giving the disabled accommodations isn’t fair. Recognizing color, culture, etc. isn’t fair. They don’t want to acknowledge differences or unconscious bias because it makes them feel shame which makes them less equal and less powerful = fear.

They can't tolerate a hint of unfairness toward themselves but are blind to how much privilege they have in comparison as members of the majority. It's also easier to blame your own failures on someone else and whomever's in the way often bears the impact.
