I also see this as an attack on the very independent companies that the ID talents wrestle in. - It's like saying "I don't need your heavyweight title...because, I already have this professional grade one that looks more legit."

It's all part of their plan. The entire industry under the wwe umbrella. Remember pre-pandemic when H wanted a nxt territory in every part of the world? Well now that that's fallen thru, the next best option is to cannibalize the indys. The same indys that AEW propped up on their arrival.

I gave the concept the benefit of the doubt when people were defending it in the beginning. But, it's clear what it really is at this point. - The belts made it clear.

Yup. And how much you wanna bet that the next move is to tell promotions that if they want to book "their champions" or anyone in the program they, that they need to be exclusive to wwe, give them a cut of any gate, and especially cut off using any talent from rival promotions?

I don't know if things will get that bad...but, certainly the ID talent is going to be positioned to overshadow other talents on the show (whether it's intentional or not). - It is going to be harder for indy promoters to build stars against people who are showcased as essentially "better".

And instead of saying "this new WWE signee is a former DEFY champion" or whatever...they'll just say "they had a great run as WWE ID champion". - Gross stuff like that...

Just looking at their history, I can absolutely see them insisting on a cut if the indy is going to use their belt on the show & in adverts. And you're absolutely right on the struggle promotions will have in developing their own talent, because wwe will absolutely insist their guy must go over.

I haven't read anything about them, but my initial thought were that these are like awards/plaques for indie wrestlers, not something they defend.
