I wish Samurai Deeper Kyo got the new anime treatment instead… it had 38 volumes (so it was successful) and the first anime was made before it was over! So many cool moments… There’s even a badass trans character in it!

When my siblings and I were younger, it really did hit a sweet spot. Good cast of characters, good action, interesting themes, not too serious...

So it hurts that I pretty much have to disavow it unless I want to play Death of the Author every time it comes up.

I loved Ruruoni Kenshin. It was the second samurai anime I ever watched and it shaped a lot of what I love in my protagonists or other favorite characters in anime.

Broke my heart when I found out about the mangaka. I haven't watched it since.
