Yes they are talking about closing the library. Their preferred option has 8 FTE being made redundant. The third option has 10 jobs going.

And realise that the council get the final say in this. If they've decided it's best it will happen.
I spent all of last year working at Napier libraries and spent that whole year fighting for my staff against management and the council to stem the harm being done.
Security was necessary as we had so many incidents we had librarians diagnosed with PTSD
Now I know why, it wad because they were already making this decision.
And I left knowing that 2025 was bringing changes I could not stand by and let happen and retain my mental health.
And that was without knowing this.
The library is more than just books and increasing the mobile library won't be enough.
I am grateful a news article is out and people are finally taking note.
I feel for your former coworkers, I know how hard you worked there and they all do too.
We need the libraries, and they need to step up and run them well.
I hope people are heard, that the council feel the heat and realise how important the libraries are. How important it is that they're not understaffed.
