if we're gonna keep ip I think you should get like... two passings-down of a character before they enter public domain, at absolute most. I can believe one guy wrote this, I can believe their apprentice has a pretty good idea of how to do it, and maybe even their apprentice, but deeper is pushing it - ThreadSky

I think there's a romantic notion to the idea of a fictional figure being bound to a "legacy" of some sort that promises integrity and quality through keeping who exactly is handling it, and I also think that's a completely insane idea that doesn't ever work anything like that at all

realistically the "integrity" of "ip" doesn't even outlive the period where a single person is working on it, it's a perpetual process of violation and reinterpretation of yourself in the past any way you slice it, often for better over short periods, more often for worse over long ones
