The account with the gray check originally was the verified account of a small town in Italy. The account was hacked. The hackers changed it to the SBF DOGE account. Then they shilled a memecoin. Then they rug pulled the memecoin to the tune of $10M

Ah! I read it as “random Italian-named scammer got the gray check, convinced a bunch of people he was SBF, got a ton of followers instantly because of the check”, etc
the funny part about phishing like this is i think the official x emails still come from a Twitter domain? that was the case a few months ago, which made phishing from a fake x email easier
