Gravity anomaly map of the Chicxulub crater in the YucatΓ‘n responsible for the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. Of the dinosaurs, only the avians (birds) survived this time period. The white dots are sinkhole locations which trace the crater's rim. #Science #Geology #PaleoSky #Dinosaurs πŸ§ͺπŸ¦•πŸ¦–

In these trying times, when we all feel like screaming, I present to you the best explanation of the Cosmic Microwave Background #CMB I've ever come across: "The Surface of Last Screaming" #Science #Physics #Cosmology #Astronomy πŸ§ͺβš›οΈπŸ” Source: ned.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/March...

Thanks for the 1,000 followers #bsky folks! More physics, space and science coming.

i don’t think we realize just how MASSIVE things in space are

Congrats to @km3net.bsky.social for their 100+ PeV muon neutrino detection event! Such incredibly high energy astrophysical events are mind blowing. So interesting to dream about what source made such a particle... #Science #Physics #Astronomy πŸ§ͺβš›οΈπŸ” doi.org/10.1038/s415...

This video by @hankgreen.bsky.social covers why the Galilean moons are so amazing. I love Pluto too, but #Io, #Europa, #Ganymede and #Callisto are top tier Solar System objects. πŸ§ͺπŸ” #Astronomy #Science #Geology #PlanetaryScience #Space Shoutout to the Europa Clipper: science.nasa.gov/mission/euro...

Check out #Asteroid 2024 YR4 which has a 2.1% chance of impacting the Earth in 2032. While scary, it is also exciting that we are the first humans who can now defend our cosmic neighborhood. #NASA, #ESA, etc. will keep an eye on this rock. #Science #Astronomy Credit: www.eso.org/public/video...

Just a nice picture of the #Moon I took in IR (>850 nm). #Astronomy #Astrophotography πŸ” Acquisition details: app.astrobin.com/i/oxq7lo

Very cool. Here's the paper: dx.doi.org/10.1038/s415... arXiv: dx.doi.org/10.48550/arx... #Science #Astronomy #Physics #Cosmology πŸ§ͺπŸ”βš›οΈ

Another attempt to process my #M33 Triangulum Galaxy data in #Siril. Trying to pull out the H II clouds. Total exposure time: 33 minutes. I think my setup is okay and I'll start doing much longer exposures soon. #Astronomy #Astrophotography πŸ” Acquisition details: www.astrobin.com/nlz7gp/

I rediscovered some old files on my computer and came across this image of the Owl Nebula (M97) and Surfboard Galaxy (M108). I think it's kind of cool to capture them together. Total exposure time is 2 hours. #Astrophotography #Astronomy πŸ” Acquisition details: www.astrobin.com/q9pc4z/

Me: "Let's do some #astrophotography!" The Universe:

Anybody else get a little bit of manic energy in the hours/minutes before submitting a paper? #Science #AcademicSky

Here is another framing of #M101 #PinwheelGalaxy from shortly after the #Supernova on May 19th 2023. It’s 21 million light years away, so this actually happened before there were humans on earth. A personal goal of mine is to photograph the Moon a month straight and make my own animation of its "libration" or perspective wobble. #Science #Astronomy πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

Someone asked to see my setup. It's lightweight which makes it very portable... Since the SW Star Adv. GTI mount runs on batteries and can be controlled by Wi-Fi it really cuts down on the cables. My next upgrade is probably a guide scope. #Astrophotography
