My first science post! I am looking for a graph that shows a frequency histogram of generation times of (macroscopic) life on Earth -- does anyone know such a figure / analysis, or a good place to look? 🧪 cc @bjenquist.bsky.social @seanmichaletz.bsky.social and other fans of scaling!

This is a great thread with super practical advice: pre-tenure PIs need to emphasize any and all wins and more senior PIs need to push back on unrealistic expectations about productivity. Despite all that is happening, we can still be a community that takes care of each other

"Mean daily temperatures predict the thermal limits of malaria transmission better than hourly rate summation" new paper now out in NatComm, led by @martashocket.bsky.social doi.org/10.1038/s414...

New paper out! A common computational approach to predict organismal fitness and distributions in the field could vastly overpredict the potential range of thermal suitability for malaria transmission relative to performance characterized at constant temperatures: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

it's a hard and sad time in science / higher ed in the US right now. on the other hand, lots of PhDs are looking for work, so I wanted to share— I'm hiring a postdoc! it's a two-year position at UCSC to do (preferably Bayesian) modeling of marine ecosystems: recruit.ucsc.edu/JPF01892

@icbm-uol.bsky.social offers a fully funded professorship in theoretical oceanography. Join a great team of physicists, chemists, and biologists working on the marine environment. Oldenburg is a truly livable city and connected to a range of marine institutes in NW Germany uol.de/en/job/w2-pr...

I’m thrilled to finally share our new dataset paper-years in the making! This has been an incredible rewarding project, and it was a true pleasure to work with such an amazing team of researchers. Huge thanks to supported by @idiv for the support www.nature.com/articles/s41...

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph is at it again! Continuing our cluster hires with tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Immunology and Virology (1 position each)! careers.uoguelph.ca/job/Guelph-A... careers.uoguelph.ca/job/Guelph-A...

Did I mention that these faculty positions are in Canada 🇨🇦? Come join us! We are an awesome department! #Immunology #Virology

Sounds awesome -- looks like a great opportunity, and Juan is great!

Next week (!!) we are presenting our workshop "integrating mechanisms into species distribution models" - don't miss it! Online 2-4 April www.biogeography.org/news/news/wo... @gfandos.bsky.social @biogeography.bsky.social

First post: 🦠🌊Denitrification is the main nitrogen loss process, but how do microbes performing different steps coexist? We outline the rules governing this coexistence and explain why some denitrifiers are more abundant than others in the ocean. Check it out here: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Joyeuse journée internationale des femmes. La SCEE a la chance de compter de nombreuses femmes qui dirigent notre société et font du Canada un chef de file mondial en recherche écologique et évolutive

Happy International Women’s Day! CSEE is fortunate to have many women who lead our society and are making Canada a world leader in ecological and evolutionary research

As President of the Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution @csee-scee.bsky.social I wish to convey our strong support for this letter (which we have signed on to) and our colleagues and allies in the U.S. We stand with you and are here for you. Science is not a partisan issue. It benefits all.

Graduating during the pandemic slowed down my process and is part of why I did two postdocs. Now as a first year faculty, all the federal grants are frozen. I love the work I do but this has all of us questioning how much www.science.org/content/arti...

🤿 HIRING POSTDOC 🤿 🌊 We are hiring a full time postdoc in ecological oceanography (2 yr) at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. This is a great opportunity to work with an amazing scientist and mentor! 🧪🦋

Appreciate Dartmouth for highlighting our recent work! Recognizing Indigenous rights in our environmental data is not only good for the communities whom the data pertains to, but also produces better science that is grounded in the expertise of the communities that steward these data relations.

Someone posted Valentines all over the department this morning! #PhycologyFriday

CALIFORNIA! Please consider signing this letter of support for NOAA Sea Grant. I know so much is on the line and this might fall through the cracks. But, it would be devastating to the study and support of aquatic natural resources if Sea Grant funding does not continue 🌊🐟 forms.gle/m1haiQuArB9u...

I am so privileged to have been able to lead this with the amazing Judy Illes and work with the most remarkable people from around the world including @tryangregory and many others not on Bluesky. "Two-Eyed Seeing and Other Indigenous Perspectives for Neuroscience". www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Darby makes this point but I just want to reinforce it: These words are entirely legitimate to discuss science, accurately and correctly. This attack on "DEI" (🙄) is not only an attempt to resegregate science but also an attack on expertise, itself. Resisting it is a defense of science

We've arrived! Follow CIEE-ICEE to learn about opportunities for Canadian researchers in ecology, evolution and environmental science to obtain funding for, or participate in, working groups, graduate courses, and workshops.
