I shot this photo from the front porthole of the Pisces V submersible, looking at Pisces IV during rare two-sub operations in 2016 on drowned #Hawaiian Ice Age #coral reefs. Lighting is accurate. 🧪 In Dec 2008 a group of us measured water column signals suggesting submarine eruption in Tonga: we convinced #NSF & #NOAA to fund a rapid response with #WHOI #ROVJason. In May 2009 we made the 1st & only obs of an active deep submarine eruption. Would discovery happen today under Trump/Musk? 🌊🌋
