A movie from where you're from There are many films shot in and around the Twin Cities where I've been living since the late 90s. There are very few movies that take place where I'm from. Here is one.

Nobody needs me to tell them what a banger The Big Heat is, but I still think this release looks terrific. www.criterion.com/films/29681-...

I saw fewer movies in my second week attending @mspiff.bsky.social but some are likely my fest favorites. Check out part two of my coverage: kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2025/04/mspi...

My butt actually started to hurt yesterday which I took as a sign to pack it in for this year. Still had a great time attending @mspiff.bsky.social Today we rest and tomorrow we go to another screening. Too many movies is my favorite problem to have. boxd.it/FY4mg

Repost with an image of your favorite James Bond (wrong answers only)

15 films, 1 feature length shorts program, and 1 Ang Lee event deep at @mspiff.bsky.social so far. I've got a few things scheduled today but might be nearing the end of the line. It's been really good, though.

Unsurprisingly a very @mspiff.bsky.social heavy #LastFourWatched

Might as well join in as everyone else is sharing this article. Much more even keeled than Axios' "Welcome to Hell" construction piece. For my part, my biking has noticeably increased due to construction fueled bus detours. It's been great. www.startribune.com/drivers-feel...

Going over the Cannes list and sharing in the excitement but also acutely aware that I'm only this week seeing some of last year's movies.

I'll be back at MSPIFF tonight for Misericordia - so please do hit me up for stickers or a zine if you're there too. Also, check out part one of my Fest coverage.

To the surprise of probably nobody who understands branding, the NE "Big Star" has changed its name: www.heyyallmpls.com

Happy Jean-Paul Belmondo day to all who celebrate youtu.be/P5EDK-Ux_74?...

So very excited for this one. It's been on my watchlist for a while, but I'll absolutely wait a bit longer to watch it on disc.

My first chunk of coverage from @mspiff.bsky.social is live! 12 movies and an evening with Ang Lee covered in this piece. I'll have the second half out early next week. kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2025/04/mspi...

Only so misty eyed I can get after UA's takeover, but pour one out for Open Streets Lyndale. I was at the first one and attended nearly every year since. Maybe a more specific local alternative can be devised one day.

No I'm not religious, but I believe in the holy trinity 🙏

Hey Minneapolis folks! I have been and will be at MSPIFF pretty much daily for the duration. If you see me, say hello! I will have Kino Ventura stickers and will absolutely give you one. I can also arrange to bring copies of Apache Revolver to purchase if you'd like.

New post is up! Closer to on-time than last month and filled with theatrical shenanigans. Lynch, Bong Joon-Ho, 16mm rarities, and an absolute stunner of 60s Italian cinema: kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2025/04/best...

Hell yeah. I'll be taking this home with me as soon as I see it at the local funny pages joint.

Very excited for this one! Reviewed the film a few years ago: kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2022/07/to-k...

This is a genuinely shocking and delightful bit of news! I'm old enough to remember when they hung the oversized movie posters at the Lagoon and I don't think a dime has been dropped in the place since: Lagoon Theater Announces Plans to No Longer Look Like This - racketmn.com/lagoon-theat...

Haven't done a #LetterboxdFriday in a minute so here's a very rewatch heavy #LastFourWatched. Two on fancy new physical releases and two in the theater! 📽️

While it's too bad this is during MSPIFF opening weekend, I still think it's incredibly cool that The Walker is screening DIVA in April. This one gets a listing and an illustration in Apache Revolver and might have one of the best chase scenes ever: walkerart.org/calendar/202...

The very first movie reviewed in Apache Revolver is the scorching 70s Ozploitation crime flick, Money Movers. I just noticed that it's on Tubi if you've been looking for it: tubitv.com/movies/47702...

Extremely LOW TICKET ALERT! Just a handful of tix available for the CFC secret 16mm show @trylon.org next week. It's a great movie, it is not an easy one to see, and I contributed something to the print program. Do not miss it! www.trylon.org/film/cult-fi...

Reading/pick-ups for the week. Really enjoyed the new zine from @garbageskeleton.skin and did read it (in part) on the bus

A friend sent this my way. I'm not aligned with all the film takes but this is either a great primer on noir/hardboiled fiction or an engaging discussion of your already favorite crime authors. I added some books to my read list, too! www.podchaser.com/podcasts/gre...

I was thumbing through the latest print ed. of the New Yorker and did expect to stumble across an article covering a Ross Macdonald Archer novel. Good stuff! www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...?

My favorite genres are 5. These gorgeous strangers might actually be vampires 4. Art Carney in the 70s 3. B-horror director who loves Antonioni 2. Charles Bronson in Europe 1. Melville

Things got weird with this one. I talk about Daredevil, Paddington, and Paul Schrader. How's that for unique coverage? kino-ventura.blogspot.com/2025/03/best...

Been stuck in my head all morning. I'm not mad about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERrg...

Instant purchase!

I'm very biased, but Andy is seriously one of the best people and is doing KILLER work in his shop.
