Fantastic video/transcript of the conversation between the indispensable @anandwrites.bsky.social and @anatosaurus.bsky.social 'So what do we say? We say: “This is a government of the bullies for the billionaires.” He is coming for your freedom. He is coming for your privacy.'

"In every state, every congressional district, and more than 95 percent of counties in the United States, public charities receive government grants. Without these grants, most nonprofits would be unable to cover their expenses." Should not be a partisan issue. www.urban.org/research/pub...

Update on the Measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u... There likely hundreds of cases, so many not being diagnosed. And many more to come. All preventable.

Welcome to affirmative action for white male mediocrity, which has a long, long history but is all ramped up and shouty and sulky right now.

It seems it's culturally okay for something to go from masculine to feminine, e.g. names like Leslie changing to a girl name, but never the other way around. Or, if it does go the other way, it has to be changed, e.g. "dude wipes" instead of towelettes. Are there exceptions in the last 100 years?

The right wing woman is not insincere in her politics, but she *is* tactical: she believes that sexual and reproductive service to right wing men will earn her their protection, affection, and material support. She is wrong.

Maybe this is obvious, but I'm reading old books and it's amazing how weird they are about people with (often minor!) handicaps. In the novel Sir Richard Calmady (1901), which is very thoughtful and long, the entire drama is around a boy born to nobility but who lacks legs below the knee.

really underappreciated how despite being the main character of politics for literally the last decade, for a lot of people Trump is still the guy from The Apprentice

💰Money Quote "The federal government’s big expenditures [for Medi/care/aid Social Security, education are] all programs for children, sick, elderly, and disabled that essentially allow people to do care labor for a wage, the way other labor is compensated in a liberal order."

A particularly nasty rug pull.

Weekly I pay homage to Anoia, Goddess of Things That Get Stuck in Drawers

I bought six copies of this and gave them away to nieces, nephews, friends...

He's right, it's a riveting read.

My small band of guerilla readers will be delighted to learn that a long chapter has been added to my fanfic "Tongue Tied." An actual plot is developing! Not simply gratuitous offbeat sex. As usual, sense of humor required as part of the kit. archiveofourown.org/works/62038726

💰Money Quote: "I'm mostly saying this out loud for the potential future benefit of looking prescient when it happens. Bonus points for the "DOGE stimulus" funds being distributed via Xitter, forcing everyone to sign up (and letting Musk rake a cut off the top!) in order to get the money."

Mark your calendars😼

Thinking of going on an Alaska cruise? "Southeast Alaska waters, which are heavily trafficked by cruise ships, receive more than 25,000 tons of scrubber discharge daily from just one medium-sized cruise ship." alaskabeacon.com/2025/02/19/c...

I appreciate everyone’s messages of support, I’m trying to get through all my mentions but as you can imagine, it’s been a bit of a busy day :) Remember - peaceful civil disobedience, and no kings, no tyrants. Not ever.

Flipping through the EOs, Dear Colleague Letters, targeted cuts, & talking points by the Trump administration, & Jason Stanley’s 5 major themes of fascist education capture many of them: 1. National greatness 2. National purity 3. National innocence 4. Strict gender roles 5. Vilification of the left

congestion pricing useful to have around for a huge list of obvious reasons but also it's nice because anytime you hear someone complaining about it you can just label them a rube and then never listen to them again about anything else
