The distance between what is said and what is known to be true has become an abyss. Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. - Mon Mothma, Andor S2E9

Yesterday a forum between Stephen Colbert and Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy came up on YT. The discussion I link to here is a highlight. Q? Is Andor about current politics? The answer explains why Andor is such a critical success. Artistic brilliance. youtu.be/qBnRz1WyemM?...

The UK-US deal has nothing of economic consequence to either country and includes "This is not a binding document." It is a nothing-burger. Hardly more than two men scrawling "Trade Deal" on a blank page then signing it. Horrible journalism by @the-independent.com

Anne Applebaum is one of the great reporters/historians of our generation. youtu.be/qyYqJolXE_E?...

It amazes me how the financial press report that Musk's problem at Tesla is how he allocates his time -- not that his DOGE efforts have been obviously deceptive, incompetent, and ineffective. After his DOGE display, why would you believe him on anything?

This should be a much bigger story.

I’m rewatching ANDOR Season 1 as Season 2 comes rapidly. The great soliloquy by Luther Rael in EP 10, in response to “What do you sacrifice?” This is absolutely EPIC bone chilling stuff especially in light of current events:

Elon Musk has cut somewhere between 0% and 3% of what he promised—and most of what was cut was not waste or fraud or abuse, but simply expenditures Mr. Musk did not personally favor for partisan reasons. DOGE is the biggest program failure in the history of American government.

This is the only place I've seen the full story of Abrego Garcia. THIS is the best reporting on this crises yet. youtu.be/JN1oBfg0fwI?...

The most important moment for our country in my lifetime.

So, is everyone OK with 10% tariffs world wide, 125% tariffs on China, 25% on Canada (and aggressive pre-war talk) and 25% tariff on Mexico? Wall Street likes that?

I thought DOGE was going to immediately slow Federal spending? Why is spending increasing over the last few years? - Chart below from NYT newsletter, attributing The Hamilton Project.

Why is this not headline news everywhere?

This seems appropriate for our day:

If you don't think Musk is working for Putin, exactly what action has he taken that doesn't help Putin and hurt the USA?

In the 1930s the policy in Germany was deport the jews, who were considered immigrants. The German regime ran into this same problem and developed the ultimate solution ....

I've flown @Southwest.com since it flew only in Texas. A lot. With today's policy changes Southwest has now completely capitulated on the vision of Herb Kelleher. Just another sucky airline nickel and diming customers and making travel as miserable as possible so they can upcharge some relief.

I read about Musk v Bannon being Billionaires v Populism. I think people forget that Bannon is the made boy of Robert Mercer, the billionaire hedge fund oligarch. This is a battle among oligarchs, between West Coast money and East Coast money, but Bannon exploits the populist message.

I don't see near enough coverage of this aspect. The President can grant exemptions from Tariffs. It is like historical Pope's granting indulgences to wealthy supplicants in exchange for a contribution to the church of course.
