The Atlanta tracker is predicting GDP growth of -2.8% in Q1. S&P, which I generally trust a lot, is at 1.6%. Goldman is also at 1.6%. Atlanta likely wrong. And regardless doesn't say what you think it does. So continue your deep breathing.

unbelievable chart

YIMBYism is wild because you start to ask questions like “why was single family zoning created?” and “are our regulations for building safety based on any actual safety data?” and soon realize that ~85% of the rules governing our cities are based on nothing but tradition and vibes.

"tree equity" is the kind of thing that columnists like to make fun of when why it works is actually instantly apparent to anyone who's ever walked down a street in the summer apnews.com/article/tree...

“To fix the problems of American governance… A good place to start would be where government is currently under assault: public administration. It’s not enough just to defend the administrative state — it must be strengthened.”

Evidence of house flipping is a much better indicator of early stage gentrification than the things people typically cite (coffee shops, apartments, etc)

It is kind of wild that Philadelphia is the only major city to have this, and yet we operate it at only a small fraction of its potential. Some of the obstacles are much easier lifts than building the tunnel was.

Some early data from my project measuring gentrification in Kansas City. This is the result of applying the gentrification definition from the best-cited paper on the subject with five variables arranged into 12 different measures.

I see the dems are still hell bent on cementing their status as the party of the affluent educated professional class www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

I have been here for six months now and I still can't get over the Kansas City freeway loop. An incredible amount of prime urban land wasted on a system that's hopelessly outdated, confusing, and dangerous to drive on

Serious Libs™️would be smart to stop mocking this boycott. Sure it's dumb but if the coalition is to succeed it will need to pull angry low social trust people into the arena. At worst this is a harmless way to start

Missouri is gonna pick up 75% of the cost of new stadiums. The border war is alive and well

I've seen the Russia-Ukraine War compared to WW1 for its slow, attritional trench warfare, but an underrated similarity is how whacky the technological experimentation has become. Tethered drones are like something out of a cartoon

"the KCATA ranked second-most productive agency in the MARC study in terms of trips per revenue hour, & had the third-lowest cost per trip." Just another reason we should fully fund transit. When allocated resources, KCATA provides good value for money! Fund transit! www.kcur.org/housing-deve...

On the subject of homelessness, KC announced this week that they'll be funding 160 year-round emergency shelter beds. In 2024, the KC/Jackson County/Wyandotte CoC found 876 unsheltered folks. 160 more beds isn't gonna get us all the way there but it's a significant move mailchi.mp/kcmo/kansas-...

If the streetcar extension is to be a ridership success we are going to need to build a ton more housing along its route

The Trump admin is causing chaos in transport research. Studies have been canceled, datasets have vanished, and experts have been fired. The Nat'l Academies’ Transportation Research Board has caved to Trump’s demands for censorship, triggering upheaval. Its future is in doubt. From me (w/scoops) 🧵
