It‘s hard to believe I once thought @gavinnewsom.bsky.social would be a good Democratic presidential candidate.

Teen Vogue: remains braver than almost any other news outlet at this time.

NEW: After tireless advocacy and litigation, Black Louisianans achieved a second majority-Black congressional district. But on Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case that jeopardizes both the future of that district and the Voting Rights Act. Here's what you need to know.

I founded Democracy Docket in 2020 to be fearlessly independent and unapologetically pro-democracy. Its work is more important today than ever before and so is your support. Consider becoming a member today. www.democracydocket.com/member-me/

And that’s on that 😌

BREAKING: In the Perkins Coie lawsuit challenging Trump’s executive order targeting the law firm, the DOJ requests the federal judge overseeing the case to recuse herself, claiming she has bias against Trump. Background: www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

This is more important than you realize. Bluesky doesn’t downgrade links. Which means news sites will get more traffic from here than other sites. Which gives them economic reasons to post here first.

This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first. Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don’t promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair.

It is no longer safe to come here. The Trump regime is insane- and dangerous

If you ask me, these anti-vax parents are guilty of child abuse and neglect.

Many people in Stella Repper’s retirement community in Falls Church, Virginia, know her. Few outside are aware that the Nazis forced her and her family to relocate to Theresienstadt when she was 13 years old.

If Trump could get reelected with a popular-vote win after attempting a coup, why should a little anti-Semitism and rumormongering about Macron's wife hurt her reputation?

we are living under fascism right now

We’ve been taught to believe that the menace to society was the fraternity alpha male. It isn’t. Society is being subjected to the sociopathy of a bunch of tech CEOs who, in my view, did not get laid enough as young men. www.profgalloway.com/porn/

Walz: "I think we have to assume the very worst in everything this administration does, and we need to prepare for it."

For 60 years, Floridians have used citizen initiatives to enact popular policies, like raising the minimum wage and legalizing medical marijuana. New state bills seek to take that power away. As a Florida resident, that pisses me off.

Paul Weiss presumably did what they would recommend a client to do: settle when litigation would be more costly even if you’re right. But when every institution cuts its own bargain with a tyrant, they all lose. That’s why they deserve the public shaming.

Trump just sent a warning to every lawyer in America. Paul Weiss got targeted, and when they caved, the attack stopped. This is Trump‘s war on lawyers who challenge him. Check out my latest: open.substack.com/pub/objectio...

Hey if you’re at Paul Weiss you should send me this email and attachment so that people can actually read it. (You can remain anonymous/I won’t attribute anything to you and I’m happy to redact for PII or other identifying information, etc.) Signal: annabower.24 or [email protected]

Paul Weiss disguising their payment of Trump's extortion as "pro-bono" work for him is disgusting. Pro-bono legal assistance is done for the public good. No legal representation for Donald Trump has ever been for the public good. It's only ever been to cheat others or help a dishonest criminal.

If Brad Karp has any decency, he would resign from the firm he has dishonored. If Paul Weiss partners have any self-respect, they will do the same to protest this capitulation.

Breaking News: The Pentagon is set to brief Elon Musk on the U.S. military’s closely guarded plan for any potential war with China, officials said.

NEW: The DOJ asks a federal judge to replace Trump as the defendant in several civil lawsuits related to the Jan. 6 insurrection. The DOJ argues he was acting in his official capacity as president, which would shield him from such lawsuits.

A friend’s disgusted reaction to Paul, Weiss: “So many non-profit lawyers have been so busy working on cases against the unconstitutional actions of the Administration, because the big firm lawyers with multiple houses and cars and boats and every other damn thing are too fucking weak to do it.”

Trump announces that the Small Business Administration will immediately handle all federal student loans, and RFK Jr is now in charge of "handling special needs and all of the nutrition programs and everything else."

1 in 3 federal workers is a Veteran. Trump is firing them like they’re disposable—no regard for their service, their sacrifice, or their livelihoods. He’s not just gutting government—he’s gutting lives. MORE: time.com/7270148/trum...

Five straight losing weeks in the market. How much lower can the #TrumpEconomy go? Wrong kind of #RedWave. Trump is King Midas in Reverse.

The Department of Education was created by an act of Congress. We will not let it be dismantled by a wannabe King.

The Texas Legislature is considering a bill that would require all new and existing voters to provide documented proof of citizenship to cast a ballot. Voters who do not submit DPOC would be able to vote for the House and Senate, but not the president.

"I’m talking about the moment when the Trump administration announces that it outright refuses to comply with court orders. Such an event would trigger a full-blown constitutional crisis — one we are simply unequipped to handle right now."

Quite busy on the Raccoonobahn overnight. 🦨🦝🐺 Skunk, raccoons and a coyote (I'm pretty sure it's just the one coyote). #mammals

“Are you worried?” That is always the first question. “Of course I am worried,” I respond. “The president of the United States considers me an enemy and has promised retribution. I would be an idiot not to be worried. But I am not going to give in. I will continue to fight.”

Truer words were never spoken.

Good news from Colorado: A U.S. District Judge ordered a school district to restore library books they banned by next week, prohibiting the district from further restrictions on access to books that the school board objects to politically. #UniteAgainstBookBans www.denverpost.com/2025/03/19/e...

Joseph Kent, a former Green Beret and two-time GOP congressional hopeful who has been nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Counterterrorism Center, has been quietly working as the top aide to Tulsi Gabbard, the head of the U.S. spy community.

A gobsmacking story. Water companies let toxic waste disposers, for cash, dump their loads into sewage farms. The sewage sludge is then spread, untested, on farmland, potentially poisoning vast areas, entire ecosystems and the people (you and me) eating the food. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

My AM ranting starts with this primer on a GOP bill that's been teed up, a bill that Project 2025, the $$aires, & the religious right asked for. It's the next big step they want to take after debilitating the Dept of Ed. It is a huge tax break for the well-off. They call it a school voucher bill.

It's riskier than ever for journalists to speak against the powerful, according to @davidenrich.bsky.social, New York Times business investigations editor. “It has huge implications for our democracy and the ability of everyone to speak their mind and criticize powerful people,” says Enrich.

Every day this administration finds new ways — petty and profound, symbolic and consequential, buffoonish incompetent and cartoonishly evil — to embarrass the people it serves.

Is it at all surprising that a convicted felon would ignore a judge's order?

Funny how nobody is mentioning the lack of DEI that went into the Cybertruck.

AOC: I want to live in an America that guarantees healthcare to every person. I want to live in an America that has a living wage for every person I want to live in an America where you have free speech to express yourself and not be afraid of being put on a list or deported.

Republican plans to scrap nearly all federal support for electric vehicles could kneecap the nascent industry, auto industry experts say, just when more Americans are considering buying an EV and car companies are planning big investments.

An LGBTQ asylum seeker from Venezuela was sent to prison in El Salvador by the Trump administration “solely because he has tattoos,” says @cargiolim.bsky.social, attorney with Immigrant Defenders Law Center. The asylum seeker has no criminal record.
