Brazil has had a 460% increase in climate disasters since the 1990s. Yet, President Lula wants to explore for oil in the Equatorial Margin to “fund the energy transition”. Pushing more fossil fuel exploration goes directly against preserving the Amazon to regulate the climate & protect communities.

It’s no surprise that many countries have missed the deadline. Whilst we would rather they took the time to get them right, rich countries need to commit to ambitious plans around climate & renewable energy well before this year’s UN climate summit, COP30.
