Sometimes life is hard; being disabled is hard being a lone parent is hard being an adopter is hard being a parent of teens with SEND is hard being the parent of teens with MH struggles is hard being with profs who don’t understand the impact of trauma is hard #SEND #adoption #trauma #disability

Starter pack for those wanting to link up with care-experienced families

On SNJ Today: "A situation where we are upholding nearly 100% of complaints cannot be one that's working for children & their families," says the Ombudsman. She's also asking for powers to investigate complaints about schools. Matt Keer asks, will the government listen? www.specialneedsjung...

Interesting!

Pretty much every trauma survivor I've ever worked with has been a highly sensitive soul existing in a highly complicated physical situation-- including their body, their housing or living situation, their economic circumstances, & their medical status. For starters.

13 yrs ago today my girls came home to live with me. At times I’ve thought we wouldn’t make it to this day as a family. It is not the life I was expecting but I can’t regret it. I love my beautiful girls so much that it hurts sometimes 1/2 #adoption #trauma #careexperienced #family

I want to sing the praises of well trained care-workers. A new PA took me shopping this morning. I’ve been a hermit lately, avoiding going where there are people. I had fun getting bits & bobs for the girls. Amazing what a great PA can help me achieve, not achieve for me #carers #disability

Feel free to join in our new care experienced starter pack and follow me. So much lived experienced of every ‘disadvantage’ possible round my house 🙄

I just tried to do this, but apparently I need a minimum of eight of accounts to set off a starter pack. So ... any more willing volunteers to be in the "first release" so I can get us up and running? #CareExperiencedFamilies #CareExperiencedAdults #Fostering #Kinship #SpecialGuardianship #Adoption

If you want to follow someone with lived experience please do follow me! AuDHD disabled lone transracial adopter to AuDHD teens with developmental trauma disorder. Living on a low income. Teens classed as Child in Need. One teen in EOTAS and one at an indie ASD school. We tick every box going!

Here is pet number 3 Benji. Benji is another Cyprus rescue, is 2 yrs old like Bonnie, and has permanent brain damage. It means he always looks a little startled, his head leans to the left and he is deliciously squidgy and soft. He is another ex street kitten and we adore him.

Living in my house is like reverse Downton Abbey. We live in relative poverty but I have 3 extra adults in the house right now. A PA for me & a shift change between tutor and LSA for Eldest 17 who is EOTAS. I’m bedridden today & use Alexa rather than a bell to summon support or speak to the “staff”

No heating upstairs at home but I am being treated to a pet blanket this morning. Can’t complain. I’m lovely and warm in bed

Pet number 2 out of 16 is Bonita or Bonnie. She is a rescue from Cyprus where she was living on the streets as a stray kitten. She eats anything vaguely edible including hair bobbles, cardboard and, if she can get to it, my dinner. But she’s a very affectionate girl so we forgive her #catsofbluesky

Keeping myself busy whilst my girls have OT at the rather wonderful Family Futures in London. Worth travelling 2 hrs for the outstanding provision #adoption #familyfutures #trauma

@helenmew.bsky.social is there a ‘starter pack’ on here for adopters or families of care-experienced youngsters? It would make things much easier

I'll give away a set of all three of the brilliant Indiana Bones books to one person at random who retweets this and follows @trouteyes.bsky.social. Winner will be chosen on Sunday 17th November at about 6pm. Good luck! www.biggreenbookshop.com/index.php?se...

I struggled with overwhelm today. I started on this lovely set which I’ve been holding on to for a few months. Bobby got confused about who owns the armchair. I ended up sitting in the dog bed

To celebrate 2,000 BlueSky followers, I'm going to do a little giveaway. Repost and follow and I'll pick one lucky person at random to win a 12-month Gift Subscription at Bert's Books worth OVER £100. You have until noon on Sunday 17th November

This is one of our 16 rescue pets. Bobby was locked away for about 7 years. We rescued him at 9 yrs old, a reactive terrified mess. 4.5 years later he is still with us being spoilt and loved

Managed to get out on the water with Eldest 17 on Thursday for her ‘PE’ lesson. Been a long time and it healed my soul a tiny bit #adoption #SEND #EOTAS
