sound is air shockwaves meaning that the effects of a sound extend beyond "hearing" it. when a tree falls, and the sound of it crashing down joins in concert with the displaced air of it falling, disturbing the leaves of nearby trees, do the leaves not hear it fall? and therefore it makes a sound?
