Science is under attack! Here are a few ways you can share your story - post it on social media, call your representative's office, engage local media outlets #resist #SaveNSF

📣🧪 $25k grants for those who: 1. are working on research on STEM and education (including AI and CS, graduate education and MSIs, and scholarship that aims to reduce inequality), and 2. have had a recently terminated or cancelled grant from NSF. Early-career scholars prioritized

🧪 funding alert! www.spencer.org/grant_types/...

🧪Check out this great thread of resources, plus don't forget we have state-by-state info cards for you at bit.ly/NSF_bystate -- each card has your Senators & their phone # PLUS how NSF activities impact your state #SaveNSF #resist

Want to see something really insane? Look at this website for USGS's Water Science Centers and Regions and see how many of their directors have "Former Employee" after their names. Everyone's gone! My best friend from grad school was one of them. Who's monitoring floods, droughts, etc?

The Human Genome Project cost taxpayers $3 Billion. Two decades on, it has generated a staggering return on investment of $1 Trillion, with benefits in medicine, agriculture, energy, the environment, & more. If you want to boost the economy, funding science is one of the best things you could do.

NASA Proposed budget includes a 24% budget cut and a billion for Elon's pet projects 🤢🤮🤬https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/us/politics/trump-budget-nasa-cuts.html?smid=bs-share

Skinny budget out. Looks bad for science. www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

There it is. The new administration's first ("skinny", meaning top-line) budget request. NASA gets cut by $6.32 billion—down to $18.56 billion, or a 25.4% cut. Gone is SLS, Gateway, and the entire Mars Sample Return project. Link: www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

More bad news for US science, indirect rates capped at 15% will further gut our research institutions & univerisities www.nsf.gov/policies/doc...

NEW: US weather forecasting is in worse shape than previously known, with 30 NWS forecast offices missing meteorologists-in-charge and about a dozen offices at risk of no longer serving their communities 24/7. www.cnn.com/2025/05/02/w...

"The [science and] science education community needs to give due attention to POST-TRUTH if it aims to help future scientists and citizens navigate the turbulence of the times." www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 🧪

NSF just revised its indirect cost policy—15%. When NIH tried the same, it led to lawsuits, layoffs, and a federal court injunction. Changes like this can wreak havoc on research. MORE ACTION ITEMS TO COME SOON. Stay tuned. www.nsf.gov/policies/doc... #NSFFreeze #WithoutNSF

Canadian 🇨🇦 early-career physicists, please consider submitting an abstract to this conference. It's a unique opportunity to present your research in a supportive environment and network with other like-minded women+ in physics. The submission deadline is today! ⚛️ 🧪 🎢 👩‍🔬

Dr. Anthony Fauci urges Americans not to accept "Normalization of Untruths".

we need to muster the strength of germinating seeds #resist

Probably every single woman in science in the United States under the age of 50 has been positively impacted by the NSF ADVANCE program in some way. As I hear stories of ADVANCE cancellations, it's hard to really fully grasp the tremendous damage the end of that one program is doing. 🧪

every gender transition is a statement in favor of human possibility and freedom and i’m tired of hearing it talked about like it’s some kind of disease

This is a really big deal and if you’re a member of the American public you should submit a comment saying it’s important not to implement this new plan because an independent civil service is essential in a democracy. ww2.aip.org/fyi/opm-adva...

I saw some guy online comment today that "we need a male AOC" and I had to shut my laptop and go for a nice, long walk in order to avoid screaming.

🔔BREAKING🔔 The NSF has frozen all research grant awards—cutting off life-saving science midstream and demanding ideological screenings for future funding. This is censorship disguised as oversight. Here’s how you can help us spread the word ➡️🧵(1/3): www.nature.com/articles/d41...

We hope to see you at #BINSeminarSeries today at 9AM PT|12PM ET! 🧠 It's not too late to register. Just click the link below! 🔗: us06web.zoom.us/meeting/regi...

Illegal terminations & purges, the headline should say. So much of what this president and admin do is straight up illegal and unconstitutional, and yet we bury this inside - WHY. We have to stop making it easy for the admin to convince the public that these are bold moves to cut governmental waste.

This is actually a nazi move. Like straight out of 1939. Injecting people with deadly viruses as "science"

Say goodbye to science See you in the streets @srti.bsky.social @ucsusa.bsky.social

My latest lost contract is indicative of the larger trend: Education research takes another hit in latest DOGE attack (& it's pretty clear that Congressionally mandated programs are also getting cut) 🤬 hechingerreport.org/proof-points...

I’m proud to join the great Cyndi Lauper in the fight for women’s rights & healthcare. Go to www.bonfire.com/girlswantrights2025 to get a shirt and learn more about the #GirlsJustWantToHaveFundamentalRights Fund. @tidescommunity.bsky.social

🚨 Science nerds: TIME FOR ACTION!! 🧪 The past two weeks have been horrendous for NSF. Will only continue to get worse, with likely more hits and fuckery today & tomorrow. See this new @carolynyjohnson.bsky.social article for where we are today (gift link). 🧵 But then most importantly...

“They are butchering the gold standard merit review process that was established at NSF over decades” www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I’m also really curious (sarcasm) about who is deeming these guys “vital” and “masculine” - not me or women I know. This whole culture feels like aggrieved men celebrating each other for a kind of masculinity women hate. Which hey if only they could just fawn over each other and leave us alone…

Today, we celebrate International Workers Day! Workers and communities are standing side by side in the fight against the climate crisis and for justice. Together, we are best positioned to build new systems that benefit us all, not just a few. 🌻🌍

This is a widely inaccurate & dangerous mischaracterization. The vaccine was developed in fetal cells obtained from two elective abortions in the early 1960s. There is not abortion debris floating around in the vaccine. And the Vatican has okayed its use. RFK Jr. is again spreading disinformation.

“I am saying it clear and loud to President Trump and his Cabinet: I am not afraid of you,” Mahdawi said immediately after his release. “Never give up on the idea that justice will prevail.”

Lithium that pooled in a volcanic caldera in the western United States had no way out, thanks to a lack of rivers. https://go.nature.com/4cZYkR9

Had a clean mammogram today and because I’m a physicist I was of course thinking about all the science in the room with me and I’m grateful to those who made it their mission to work on early detection and cures for breast cancer 🖖🏽

Sen. Ossoff: Who out there in the American public is sitting at home demanding that we shut down cancer research and Alzheimer's research?

Federal workers SAVE the government money, that’s why firing them is COSTING the government money. This isn’t difficult.

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

I wrote a leader about how people need to stop making things up, and the rest of us need to stop letting them get away with it www.newscientist.com/article/mg26...

Julia Parsons, a U.S. Navy code breaker during World War II who was among the last survivors of a top-secret team of women that unscrambled messages to and from German U-boats, has died at 104.

Grant cancellations of any kind are terrible and disruptive, but I've been thinking a lot about the compounding effects that cancelling trainee grants will have - so many promising young people left discouraged and (rightfully) contemplating careers outside of science.

Eeep the administration's math skillz are not looking good today

Another wild book related thing has happened! My dearly beloved grandmothers cornbread recipe has been included in a cookbook! But this is no ordinary cookbook. Inspired by dinners among scientists, it highlights the personal stories, favorite foods & cultural traditions of researchers worldwide.
