This isn’t going to go well. #TrumpsTariffs

Seville, Spain eliminated 5,000 car parking spaces and built an 80 km protected cycling network in just 18 months with 32 million €. Result: An average 70,000 bike trips a day. Leadership.

Best headline since the election: succinct and accurate and the only place I've read it so far www.mainepublic.org/politics/202...

Around 35% of SpaceX’s revenue comes directly from the federal govt. Less than 1% of NPR’s budget comes from the federal govt.

Lots of people in N.C. voted for him because they bought the line that Biden's response to Helene was terrible. There might be no response at all for the next storm.

Occurs to me that there’s a similarity between these politics grifters & fundamentalist apologetics: Their job isn’t REALLY to make an argument that holds up to reflection or scrutiny. It’s to deliver a performance of “erudite person who agrees with me” so you have permission not to think too hard.

When NYC started congestion pricing last week, we knew the local mainstream press would be out talking to drivers who were against the toll. So we went out and heard from some people who weren’t driving, including advocates who fought for this historic program. thewaroncars.org/2025/01/14/1...

Dismantling the fact-checking infrastructure is going to be super handy when things start going wrong in the new administration and they want to redirect blame onto the left.

IMPORTANT: The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility. Let’s be clear— it wastes public money to NOT do it. #CityMakingMath HT @modacitylife.bsky.social

They absolutely got away with it. They are likely to continue to get away with such things for a while. But here’s the thing: I’d rather be unsuccessfully decent than successfully evil.

it's sort of crazy how much density and housing variability you can get with 3-5 story + dachgeschoss (inhabited attic) point access blocks on a narrow, tree-lined street

Never forget, when you’re being asked to prove that safe bike-lanes or pedestrian crossings across unsafe conditions are ‘needed,’ it's hard to justify a bridge by the number of people swimming across a raging river.

#RightOfWayBook Race, Class, & the Silent Epidemic of Pedestrian Deaths in America. 180 pages. I'm 40+ pages in. Fairly easy reading. As I was checking the page count I noticed Nashville & @walkbikenashville.bsky.social mentioned in the book's conclusion. Something to look forward to!
