Spring 1, International Day - With the support and clear guidance of @darrellwakelam.bsky.social I flew solo on this with 90 Year 2 children! The amount of prep needed before hand is huge, but the children saying " We did that!" every time they pass it proves how much art matters. #TajMahal

A trip to Pakistan with Mum was one of the hardest trips I have had to do so far, esp as it was a year on from Dad passing away. Seeing family, now older and frailer was fraught with emotions; saw my aunt one day, then attended her funeral 4 days later. Life really is too short.

Well here are my full top 40 (actually 42) #FavePicturebooks24. All the way from joint No 1-15 pt1/2…

Looking for a last minute Christmas gift? Have you got a friend that likes monkeying around with creative stuff? My friend recommends this excellent book 'Art Shaped'. Available on Amazon, from publishers Bloomsbury.com and from all leading online booksellers. 😁 #edusky #christmasgift #christmasbook

1 year since Dad passed away - grief never goes away, you learn to live with it. He loved flowers, and would love the fact that we adorn his graveside with so many each time we visit. #GoneButNotForgotten

Time to start over I guess. 🙂 Hi, I'm Darrell. I make stuff, mainly out of things you'd normally throw away. I work with children and young people, lots of them. I make 3D artwork, mainly in schools . . . and I make sculptures myself, share them online, and hopefully inspire others to have a go. 👍

On The Wall by Anne Fine is an outstanding story about the transition to secondary school but, more importantly, it's about the importance of learning to accept yourself and understand the value of calm in a chaotic world. Finley is a delightfully complex protagonist. Loved it.

Following a few requests from teachers and school leaders, I've made a short video on the key ideas that I think teachers (and parents/carers) need to know about reading development, based on my reading concept map. youtu.be/JvtUxB5WM1k?...

Spent this week at Mum's and felt grateful to have the time away from work to be able to do this. Went to visit Dad - grief never gets easier, it overwhelms and is all consuming and comes in waves. #NotAYearYet

Introduced a 'Read With A Friend' graphic novel display this morning. By the end of the afternoon, quite a few of them had already been borrowed. Thank you Imogen M, another one of your fantastic #ReadingForPleasure ideas is up and running.

Listen to every single word of this brilliant conversation between Geof Barton and @creativehigg.bsky.social on the Oracy Commission Podcast. Just gets right to the heart of the power of oracy and learner centred pedagogies. open.spotify.com/episode/2ytW...

Absolute best #nonfiction book this year. “History of Information” by Chris Haughton is a stunning exploration of the history of communication, brilliantly researched and stunning illustrated in a way that make it really clear. Just fantastic

Have just finished rewriting the overview for a weekly picturebook assembly which focuses on equality, diversity and inclusion. It's still a work in progress but please feel free to use and adapt. All shares appreciated! The link is on my Padlet: padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...

Have been thinking about our first class read. A couple of years ago, we went with Can You See Me? by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott. It was a big success, with many pupils choosing to read the rest of the series, so going to read it again. What are other people starting with? #Edusky
