I know there are many other things in the world to be angry about, but I reserve a place in my heart for #yvr drivers who pretend they don’t know how a crosswalk works. May your transmission crumble and your tires always be flat.

For #yvr and #booksky folk, readings from the Vancouver writers of Off the Map today at 1!

The Strong Borders Act would allow "Canada Post to open mail based on vague criteria [and] law enforcement to get IP addresses w/o a warrant ... police will be able to ask digital service providers to hand over data voluntarily and protect them from being sued ..." www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

An aggressive sauce!

I wish to learn more

If you're in Metro Vancouver, and you're looking for a cat, you should consider dropping by CARES. They're good folks and they run on a shoestring budget. I'm sure they'd also love more donations/fostering volunteers.

Not finding I have much appetite for dark academia, but petty academia I could go for. Been looking forward to this one and I trust that many more scones will be eaten!

Bees

Kind of struggling with the day. Figure I might be just about ready for it around bedtime.

Someone please put Matthew Miller back under whatever rock he crawled out from.

Reminded, as ever, of the old Abd al-Latif hair in the honey story…

Distressing. #vwfc

I talked to Seema Shah, one of the editors of Off the Map: Vancouver Writers with Lived Experience of Mental Health Issues, about the collection and more. Here's the audio: thecommentary.ca/ontheline/23...

I’m not sure I believe that this “Maverick Handley” is a real baseball player. That’s clearly a pseudonym.

It seems pretty straightforward to me, Canada, the UK, and France threatened "further concrete action" if Israel did not stop its expansion of the settlement enterprise and its blockade of Gaza. Israel has not complied with either demand, so when will concrete action be taken?

Somehow it’s never quite “the right pitch to swing at.” Whole lot of striking out looking.

I can be found roaming the street and loudly wondering where my pastry is.

I am, once again, asking you to share this call for stories widely: The Apocryphal will be an anthology of Palestinian horror and dark fantasy/sci fi published by Roseway. Details below! soniasulaiman.com/the-apocryph...

#booksky Off the Map, an anthology of Vancouver writers with lived experience of mental health issues, is out on shelves, and if you’re in #yvr, today would be a great day to stop by @crossandcrowsbooks.bsky.social to get it! (You should probably also get Martyr! while there. It’s very good.)

Update: the bookworm-in-a-wall has upgraded to cozy bath time

We were hoping that this letter to @bsky.app could first be shared by a Gazan, but we were too worried that doing so would get their account deleted so we are sharing first. You can sign on to the letter about the unfair treatment of Gazans on Bluesky here: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Genocide

Every Harry Potter book or shirt you buy directly funds the persecution of trans people. There's absolutely no excuse to support anything Harry Potter anymore unless you hate trans people.

Reading that sports are stressful as I bathe in the pleasures of an early-season baseball victory.

Don’t know that I believe in the casting of Jake Cronenworth. He clearly has the face of a middle reliever.

The UN's humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher warned Tuesday that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza over the next 48 hours. "The suffering is really beyond description," says Mahmoud Alsaqqa, Oxfam's food security and livelihoods coordinator in Gaza.

People who are still shouting that Israel is not committing genocide must be clapping their hands over their ears every time an Israeli minister steps onto a podium because

Okay the areas where most of the people on Bluesky are (particularly Khan Younis) are being displaced- so I am going to start a master thread here of people who need help with evacuation. I’ll keep adding to it so check the bottom part too:

#yvr Bit of a tough double header for the home side today at Nat Bailey! Did get to watch a switch pitcher though, so that’s something you don’t see every day.

A crow bathing. Really splish-splashing in the puddle at the edge of a vacant plaza.

My newest episode is here. It's about astronomy!

I really did not love Skarsgard’s Murderbot narration, but perhaps it will grow on me. Liked the rest of it enough to keep watching.

This little lesser evil app is busily at work erasing people who are struggling to survive genocide. It’s repulsive.

"adapt or die"? you guys can't even write an email for chrissakes

It’s MLB Weekend in the armed forces, and active members everywhere will be sporting high socks and sleeveless hoodies. Special hats will also be made available for purchase.

Convoy pastor elaborates on his friendship with Ottawa Police: “It was almost like a friendship that we were starting to form” “It was just, ‘Hey, you hear anything, give me a call, and if I hear anything I’ll give you a call’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah Derek, I’ll keep you informed if I hear anything’.”

I maintain that this is a good idea, despite what they’re writing in the papers.
