The analogy that Andrew Rawnsley in his otherwise excellent piece on Starmer and Trump in yesterday’s Observer fails to cite is the Alec Guinness character from Bridge on the River Kwai. In all his professed calmness (same as Starmer) Col. Nicholson still helped the Japanese to build a bridge.
