I’ve enjoyed the Marginal Revolution podcasts but have to admit they’ve lowered my esteem of Cowen and Tabarrok. In one episode they’re discussing when (1920s? 1950s?) something like a carbon take should have been imposed. It doesn’t seem to occur to them that a cap on GHGs solves this problem!

I think you absolutely can do meaningful and politically relevant activism from within academia, but this mostly looks like unglamorously plugging away at some politically relevant hard empirical problem in a rigorous way, rather than writing provocative manifestos.
