I realised that I’ve rarely, if ever, spoken of the K&C of the HGA, despite it being the central task of the Order. On analysis I think that the reason is that this is so internalized that I rarely think of it. So what’s to be said? Simplistically, the HGA is you on a good day.

"Liber OZ", also known as "Book 77", "The Book of the Goat", and "The Rights of Man", a single-page liber by Το Μεγα Θηριον—The Master Therion, Fra. Perdurabo, Aleister Crowley, Baphomet X°—the text of which I believe it is especially worth reflecting upon in troubled times such as these. 【93s.】

What are siddhis to you? These are apparently the purview of the Adeptus Major, yet he is also cautioned not to cultivate them.

A few years ago I joined a Buddhist sangha and received bodhisattva precepts. Even so I remain an A.’.A.’. aspirant at heart, and the dharma way is very much incorporated into the work of an initiate as karma yoga. Living with the precepts is no more that Do what thou wilt.

Thinking about the tendency for conspiracy theorists to exhibit dark triad personality traits. It’s also true that such people find their way into occult orders. Thankfully vetting and testing mean they usually betray themselves before they can break something, and ordeals reveal true motives.

The A.’.A.’. system is syncretic at first glance. But this isn’t the spiritual consumerism of the New Age movement. Our syncretism is about distilling the essence of various systems of magick, yoga and the rest, so as to extract their central point, what I call the heart of the matter.

One of the paradoxes of the path, is that after a point, giving up having a path is itself the path. Sitting on my porch, checking developing seedlings, listening to the birds and the rain. The idea of inserting spiritually into this, adding artificial depth, is absurd.

One heartening thing I see online is the number of people working the A.’.A.’. system independently. This means that the Order can serve far more people than could actually become members of some group or lineage.

In retrospect, there are more direct paths than A.’.A.’., but a teacher once told me, you never actually get anywhere in life, so you may as well take the scenic route. The is is all the grades are, exhaustive experience on the way up Mount Abiegnus.

It’s usually higher for ages they are grasped after. But in practice a grade only tells you what your supervisor sees in you. And in any case a grade is only official if you have a student one step behind ready to take your place, and meaningless to anyone else.

In the Outer College it might be understandable since these grades are recognized via the definite passing of milestones. I once knew a person who at first meeting, on learning that I was also an aspirant, informed me that he was a Zelator. To me that just means he had established a steady practice.

The attainment that the grades recognise is neither special power nor status in a hierarchy. There is nothing to be gained from higher grades, and they are generally marked not by superiority, but by a sense of the aspirants own nothingness.
