AGI has been achieved. All hail Grok 3 (beta)

First: I apologize for never coming here and now doing so only to brag 😬 Second: I am very proud of the people in our lab. We are a small group in a Bio department and this work took an enormous amount of effort from every one here. rdcu.be/eaxEz

Registration is open for our summer FASEB #Ferroptosis Conference July 27 - 31, 2025. We have a terrific line up of speakers and it's going to be amazzzing! Come join us for this historic first meeting! Please help us to spread the word. 🀩 shorturl.at/QA6T1

This is what amounts to an ILLEGAL & indiscriminate funding cut for research centers everywhere. It will mean shuttering labs across the country, layoffs in red & blue states, and derailing lifesaving research on everything from cancer to opioid addiction. We all need to speak out to save lives.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%. I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters. grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

This will kill science in the US. This is how China wins. Why is this not on the news? Why are people not more upset about this? grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Your Action Is Needed! Congress needs to hear from scientists. Call your representatives to oppose funding freezes and restrictions on research. Find contact info at govtrack.us and make your voice heard today! #SciencePolicy www.ascb.org/science-poli...

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the COβ‚‚ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii. @noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

The NSF is the US engine of basic science discovery and technology innovation. This decision is a gift to our overseas competitors.

Honored to be giving a talk at Dana-Farber’s TPD seminar this Thursday 2/6 at 9am PST. dfci.zoom.us/webinar/regist… Come check out MrTAC πŸ’Š @danafarber.bsky.social

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

Leading in STEM used to be such a point of pride in American patriotism. We were proud to be the first on the moon, to the atom bomb. When did that change? We want cures for diseases like AIDS, obesity, cancer, Alzheimer's and we want to get there first. Why can't we tap into that?

Fun to see it out in print! I was really lucky to have an amazing team to work with on this. If this sort of work seems interesting to you or someone you know, please feel free to reach out (planning to staff a lab later this year). www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Disappointing new study showing - once again - that women are leaving research careers at far higher levels than men If you're interested to read about strategies to reverse these types of curves, check out our recent #Cell perspective- link below ‡️ #WomeninSTEM πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺ www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I am excited to report the preprint of my postdoc work in the @olzmannlab.bsky.social! We have discovered the first lipid droplet quality control pathway with broad implications for lipid physiology and diseases associated with LD accumulation and oxidative stress! #lipidtime shorturl.at/2HqFd

I’m proud to join more than 30 colleagues today in sharing our analysis of potential risks from β€œmirror life”. We summarize our findings in a @science.org article, and in greater detail in a 300pg technical report: Article: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... Report: purl.stanford.edu/cv716pj4036

Excited for some cool science at #CellBio2024 this year! Come by my poster (Sun. Dec 15, 1.30-3pm Board B136) and stay for my talk (Sun. Dec 15, 4 pm Rm 33B) where I'll tell you about our work on a lysosomal mechanism for membrane protein degradation!

Hi! Thought I'd mosey on down to bsky as well with the rest of the science peeps! I love combining old-school biochemistry with all the 'omics' to discover new things about organelle function and cellular metabolism in health and disease.

I’m so excited to organize the #Lysosomes Subgroup at @ASCBiology 2024 meeting on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3:15pm, Room 33B. Lysosomes naturally lend themselves to puns. So…Don’t be π’ƒπ’‚π’”π’Šπ’„. Join us for fresh, π’„π’–π’•π’•π’Šπ’π’ˆ-edge talks and puntastic times. It will 𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒕 π’šπ’π’– if you miss it.
