The Swampscott Housing Authority is making moves to create a new LLC in order to purchase and redevelop a garage in town. Hopefully this is successful. The lot is currently zoned as A4 which means only duplexes are allowed by right, 3-8 units would require a special permit, and 8+ are not allowed.

There has been this assumption in the media that when Trump lies everyone can just see right through it and knows he is lying. It is under appreciated how many people believe him, get let down by his lies, and then still think “the other side” is worse.

And now you too can read the survey comments and the summary provided by the MAPC on the Swampscott Master Plan Survey. www.swampscottma.gov/community-an...

I think 1/3 of my civics activism is just making requests for the town to put public documents and project timelines on the town website so they are publicly available.

Found another one.

Massachusetts released its Unlocking Housing Production Commission report with a series of bold policy recommendations. 🚗 eliminate min parking reqs 🏡 duplexes on all lots, quadplexes if utilities 📐 min lot size reform 🏗️ single-stair reform 💰funding incentives www.remainplaces.com/post/a-bold-...

Let’s do it.

Breaking: the Swampscott Affordable Housing Trust Fund is now mostly up to date on approving and posting meeting notes publicly. Major goal of 2024 finally accomplished. Thank you.

Saw a navy recruitment billboard in Boston that read “Defeat Terrorism Vicariously” (I tripled checked that’s what it said) and I don’t see why people aren’t already doing that by sitting at home.

It’s still wild to me the number of people who interact with posts in their local FB groups with zero skepticism. Spammers, sock puppet accounts, and other bad actors are common in every large group.

The Swampscott DEI engagement with ReadySet consulting is still going. Public updates should be coming shortly. I know this seems like small peanuts news, but in this current environment it seems somewhat rebellious.

One of the things I love about Salem’s history effort (which even receives disappointed reviews sometimes) is that DESPITE all the people running around pretending they are connecting to their own “witchiness” the town does their best to ground people in the horrible reality.

The first nationwide database tracking misconduct by federal police officers has been shut down by President Donald Trump, deleting a resource that experts said improved public safety by helping to prevent bad officers from jumping to new agencies and starting over.

Currently reading through raw comments of the Swampscott Master Plan Survey and reminded of how much people really have trouble coming up with positive visions of the future that aren’t just the past. Anyway, here was my comment on the “vision” question.

"Missing middle" housing must play a major role in Massachusetts' housing future. Currently the vast majority of the Commonwealth is zoned for single family only, preventing us from right-sizing our housing supply & providing options to meet the varied needs of our residents.

@mapbox.com is the hero we need right now.

This is the story the @bostonglobe.com didn’t know to tell about this effort.

Gen. Glover put together (willingly or not) the first racially integrated unit in this country’s history - a fact that the people involved in this effort continually forget to mention. Why do we preserve buildings if not to remember actual history? www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/16/m...

Fun fact: the vast majority of emergency incidents the fire department send out a big ladder truck for are car crashes and then a distant second is medical emergencies. Seems like we should have a vehicle dedicated to that type of incident first. news.google.com/read/CBMihgF...

Vancouver always knows what’s up. The Discussion poster on street.

Firing prosecutors who are pursuing brutal white supremacists is of a piece with the anti-DEI orders, as segregationist social orders are maintained through law enforcement winking at violence.

News orgs did this in his first term too where they point out high approval from his supporters about the racist things, little evidence to support economic gains, and then insist he wins primarily on economic issues.

A couple of desert palettes I put together from my recent trip to Las Vegas.

Update to this: because town counsel didn’t feel the original citizen’s petition was clear enough that they actually wanted a special town meeting, a new petition was started and cleared the signature hurdle so it seems like we will probably have a special town meeting about this now.

One of the underrated annoyances of a trump presidency is that you have to check back in 5 minutes after something absurdly stupid is announced just to see if it was undone.

Feel like I’ve reached new heights when I get referenced in random comment sections that I have no part of. It is very specifically me this person is referencing here and I am here for it.

Trump almost flooded California because of a conspiracy theory about a fish from a Sean Hannity Fox News special from 2009.
