SAINT OMER: Diop doing something quietly ambitious here; a formally rigorous, objective inquiry into the very notion of empathy that recognizes that women go through hidden Sisyphusean struggles and can’t always stay above water. Has an uneasy power, the Nina Simone drop is a crusher.

Finally watching this

How does the judge ruling against mass firings at govt agencies affect the just announced SSA cuts?

Let Rian Johnson make his trilAAGGGH (bound and gagged by Redditors, thrown into a black van)

Hackman was an actor who could explode and implode with equal force, often in the same movie. Growing up in the ‘90s it felt like he was in *every* good movie. An artist in full command of his instrument.

RULES OF THE GAME 4K is on deck

Many of the people who have SNAP already have fucking jobs and if they don’t the likely have either physical or mental hindrances that keep them from working (my sister for example), it’s fucking INFURIATING that people still think Reagan’s “welfare queens” bit is gospel

Very cool that my uncle who has AIDS wont be able to leave his house for the next 4 years

I work in a bookstore; the NPR tote bag crowd come in the first couple of days whenever a new one of these exposés comes out but after about 2 weeks we can’t give them away.

A thing that quite frankly drives me nuts. Things are still a shitshow but look at what has undeniably changed in the past two weeks because of the actions of the court

Fucking knew he would push the tariffs back another month

Might try and do a Bong marathon before MICKEY 17 next week.

I haven’t watched ROSEMARY in over a decade and yeah yeah problematic fave and all but Christ this is masterful filmmaking

JFK, easily

Listened to that Sam Fender guy and I’m sorry I’ve lost all patience for the “my mouth is stuffed with gauze” style of singing.

WOW

Next on the reading list

Doing a double feature tonight of ROSEMARY’S BABY and ROSETTA. Two movies that…aren’t dissimilar. Women’s bodies being exploited by nefarious forces (Satan, capitalism).

because i've already got someone saying it in my mentions, i'll just come out and say that if you think jefferies is going to double back on what he said *on the floor of the house this morning* about not giving republicans a single vote for this, you're just making up a minority leader to be mad at

Funny if she was on the beach and left her phone in the hotel room which is now on fire because her phone exploded from all the incoming calls

12 years with my iPod Classic, it’s the only way to live

All-time banger

The new Russo Bros "movie" looks like straight-up pro-AI propaganda

I need to stop reading modern fantasy for a while. I've been burned by writers who can't write (Brandon Sanderson, John Gwynne) and brilliant writers who go off into pseudo-philosophical, unreadable tedium (Alex Pheby)

I can't remember what started it...movies have been present in my life as far back as I can remember. We had nearly every Disney movie on VHS and I would watch them over and over again. My parents would rent movies and I would get up at 5 a.m. and watch them, no matter what they were.

Are we finally in the final-30-minutes-of-GOODFELLAS phase with this fucker?

I stopped paying attention to any and all cable news in, like, 2009 and frankly I have no regrets

I can finally watch it again, free from streaming’s tyranny

Car dealerships are a fucking nightmare to deal with, man

Same. Album kicks ass

That and they want a slice of that “immunity for official acts” pie

Next on The List. Anyone seen this? I got it from Kino for $8 and it looked interesting

22 Short Films About Springfield

My mom just asked me if a Facebook post claiming that Steven Spielberg was making a sequel to SCHINDLER'S LIST that was about rescuing people from Trump with a poorly AI'd poster was real or not. "How am I supposed to tell just from looking at it?"

I will once again recommend reading Adam Hochschild’s “American Midnight”
