Latest blog post: Watching Claude play Pokemon Red! aaronmccollum.blogspot.com/2025/02/watc...

I finished the Static Pages section for @scrimba.bsky.social 's React course. Absolutely loving it! Their methods of teaching and the way they mix the text editor into their site with the video is very unique and engaging. I'll write up a blog post soon of what I've learned and my initial thoughts.

Scrimba's React course is amazing

Daytona 500 ending was NUTS!

I went to my first meetup of 2025 yesterday. On LinkedIn I saw someone ask if there is advice to make the most out of a meetup group. I wrote down my thoughts on how to approach a meetup group: aaronmccollum.blogspot.com/2025/02/goin... #networking #coding #programming #learning

Happy Daytona 500 day. Here's my favorite car paint scheme of all time - Mark Martin's 1998 Brickyard 400 car.

Gonna go ahead and say "nah" Virgil - it's on the players to keep their emotions in check and not lose control (especially players for a first-place club). The ref should help, but he's not a baby sitter for 4-year-olds. www.espn.com/soccer/story...

Didn't Unity try this BS pricing model a few years ago and had to retract it?

I'm learning React and made a reusable web-page footer today. aaronmccollum.blogspot.com/2025/02/maki... #javascript #react #coding

Surprised Adam Vinatieri didn't make it to the NFL HOF. The guy was incredible. He deserves it, so hopefully soon he gets in.

I don't know how Twitch determines the amount of ads, but 2:30 of ads at the very beginning of someone's experience on a channel is a sure-fire way of getting them to leave.

Clicked on a Twitch channel and got hit with 2:30 worth of ads immediately. Click out of that channel immediately, clicked into a different channel with more viewers, got hit with :30 of ads. I think I'll stay here lol.

Wild that the Verge said on their podcast to not download the DeepSeek app. Usually I feel they are pretty open to any and all tech, but they themselves didn't even download the app. I don't blame them at all of course, but I didn't think I'd hear that on their podcast.

Today's podcast episode I'm checking out is @theverge.com Vergecast's episode on what else? DeepSeek and the chaos it caused this week. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

February book - lets go.

My @freecodecamp.bsky.social shirt came in! Excited to wear it to work today.

Just finished Chip Wars. Very good book and timely I think. If you're curious about semiconductors and microchips and how we got to where we are in 2025, this is a great book to check out. February book: The Clean Coder by Robert Martin.

My ramblings on 2025 and social media as I see it: aaronmccollum.blogspot.com/2025/01/soci...

Practicing to make some training videos for our app at work. I'm amazed at the work it takes to make a video that's just 2-3 minutes long. Rehearsal, writing, 9-10 takes because I mess up a word or the demo. A lot of prep but the finished product will be nice.

Any developers out there, check out the link below. I just got a @freecodecamp.bsky.social shirt - they are good people helping other people better themselves in coding.

Re-designed my text generator app to make it better looking (it wasn't great on the UI-front previously). Added a copy button too, so I can quickly copy my text to the clipboard without select + copy. Pretty happy with it. aaronmccollum.github.io/text-generat...

18,974 games were released on Steam in 2024. I love this about the PC marketplaces - it's very easy for smaller studios and individual game devs to make some really fun games, not be beholden to mega-game studios who crunch and lay off their people, and they are rarely at a AAA game price.

RIP Garth Hudson, the last surviving member from The Band. Gonna be playing a lot of their music tonight.

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

What a turnaround for the Commanders. Absolute bonkers.

I give it 48 hours.
