Raise your hand if you’ve ever used the Wayback Machine! ✋ The Internet Archive project (funded in part by NEH, #IMLS and #NSF) is an invaluable treasure trove of millions archived sites, texts, software, movies and more. All FREE. And a vast majority of federal funding has been cut. archive.org

In a clip from a July 2024 virtual town hall that recirculated online earlier this year RFK said Americans “addicted” to opioids, antidepressants, and stimulants should be sent to “wellness farms." This country tried that once before. Spoiler: It didn’t work. Read more here ⤵️

Two young German travelers expected their Hawaii trip to be a highlight. Instead, their visit ended in handcuffs, jail time, and deportation — a stark reminder of the risks some international visitors face at US borders. https://beatofhawaii.com/why-these-hawaii-travelers-were-jailed-and-deported/

Texas lottery executives blessed a scheme that ensured one player would win a $95 million jackpot in 2023. In a state known for its aversion to government regulation, the successful manipulation has taken on deep meaning. nyti.ms/4jdtZ3X

Measles cases spread to three more states

What the actual hell?!?! A second signal chat - led by Hegseth - in which he shared attack plans with uncleared people. Like HIS WIFE. How is this the Secretary of Defense? And will there be any consequences at all? www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/u...

Russian President Vladimir Putin has violated a self-imposed Easter ceasefire in his Ukraine war, with several strikes and assaults overnight, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said today.

1/ Yesterday, CDC updated its measles data — here’s what you need to know. As of April 17, 2025, the U.S. has reported 800 confirmed cases across 25 jurisdictions. 94% are linked to outbreaks. 🔗 www.cdc.gov/measles/data...

It finally happened. Just received my first confirmed evidence of ICE targeting an Afghan wartime ally (a former Afghan Army soldier who was granted legal asylum) for detention and possible deportation. He went live on social media with the agents attempting to enter his home in Oklahoma City.

NEW: A soccer coach and legal permanent resident flying home to Colorado from overseas has been detained. His family thinks it's a result of 15-20-year-old court cases. An immigration attorney says this situation is a warning to all non-citizens. #copolitics www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qrxw...

A Trump administration document, cited by news reports, proposes eliminating funding for Head Start, which is dedicated to early child care services. An advocate says the move would be "catastrophic."

The US attorney general for DC sent a letter to a medical journal asking about alleged bias in the decision to publish content. MedPage Today has reported at least two more. "Nothing discussed in this letter comes within a million miles of any plausible jurisdiction of the U.S. attorney." 🩺

Due to a lapse in federal funding to NOAA from the DOC, contracts supporting several regional climate centers ended yesterday. This includes four of the six major regions, specifically the High Plains, Midwestern, Southeast, and Southern regions. Climate data is crucial to our mission. (1/3)

Per source, NIH has been instructed to hold off from issuing ALL awards to Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, and Northwestern (including med schools) Agency staff have also been instructed to not speak about this funding freeze to grantees and applicants

Never seen it framed this way by all recent elections Wild

What a joke: Trump officials claimed the letter sent to Harvard with a list of demands was a "mistake" sent w/o authorization. Because Harvard defended themselves, the White House announced they were freezing funding and Trump threatened to remove their tax-exempt status anyway. What a shit show.

A very long, but interesting read ☹️ 'He [Chan, PNG] wrote in a statement that those involved in Solwara “certainly do not have my government support and approval” and that he considered the “presence of any vessel or activity in the area to be illegal.”' 🧪 www.scientificamerican.com/article/mine...

This statement from the NSF is insane. Science is, in essence, designed to separate the true from the false. Understanding how falsehoods spread is key to the scientific endeavor. It is not a violation of free speech to be proven wrong.

Assuming this post today is aimed at us. The Trump admin changed the rules to make it easier to replace career federal employees with political loyalists. If you’re not alarmed by Trump’s post, you should be. This isn’t about policy it’s about control. It’s “do as I say, or you’re replaced.”

Many data sets held by NOAA are being "retired" in may, including datasets relevant to ocean sciences and climate. If you have need for these data, or are an archivist, it would be good to download this now. PLEASE SHARE WIDELY. www.nesdis.noaa.gov/about/docume...

BREAKING: We're suing to block a new Utah law that allows courts to strip people with disabilities of their civil rights without due process. This law would allow a guardian to isolate the disabled person from their loved ones. Guardianships should be made less restrictive, not more.
