I design soft, romantic knitting patterns and have strong opinions about knit socks. Here you'll find yarn, tea, gardening, and a daily cheerful thing. I used to practice law, but now I'm nobody's lawyer. she/her

It was a rocky week, so tonight I got a cone of Gold Medal Ribbon.

Hey: If you made it through the week, and you tried to do some things to help other people — large or small — where you could, and you need to hear it, I’m here to tell you thank you. Get some rest. Figure out today, then figure out tomorrow.

Guys, I booked so many appointments and ran so many errands today. Just saved up piles and piles of crap I didn't want to do and then knocked 'em all out, one after another. I think it's time for some ice cream.

This is an Econ paper for Bridgerton and Jane Austen fans.

I was recently approached for a brand collab, and as I always do with companies unfamiliar to me, I checked out their social media and website. The social media feed was full of AI images, and the website wasn't much better. Worse, I couldn't easily tell who was actually behind the business. 1/

Also, I’ve heard from a few readers over the years that they really hate reading blogs with ads on them. While I can’t afford to run my blog for free, I can offer an alternative way to access it! So for a dollar a month on Patreon, you can read all my posts with no ads. patreon.com/ABeeintheBon...

Helpppp today he dove under the waves and fished a burrito sealed in a Ziploc baggie out of the pocket pouch on his hoodie. I giggled so hard.

I want to expand on this because I think, without context, my little posts about joy can seem trite and twee. They’re deadly serious. When you’re miserable, scared, angry, envious, you’re easier to manipulate. 1/

Today’s challenge: find joy in someone else’s joy. Keep an eye out for it. Are others clearly enjoying a good meal, basking in a sunbeam, holding hands with someone special to them (not necessarily a romantic partner!), humming a song? Let their joy fill you with joy.

Today on the blog: knitting blankets on straight needles, why it can be a challenge, and a few possible workarounds. www.abeeinthebonnet.com/blog/knit-a-...

A recipe for joy: noise cancelling headphones. A song you love to dance to. Climbing up onto a bar stool to put something away on the top shelf. Having yourself a solo dance party on top of that bar stool while you’re up there. Bonus: put your hair in a high ponytail so it swings while you dance.

I just watched the Ben Hur chariot scene for the first time since I got hooked on F1 and yanno, I have a whole new frame of reference now

A reminder: when times are bleak, and you feel like you can’t do much to fix things, pick something small and start there. A couple years ago, I set up a recurring donation from my knitting design profits to my local food bank. My business is very, very small, but we can still do something.

Important update: power is out, which means our heater isn’t running (electric thermostat). I didn’t notice because Bella kept me toasty, but now we have a fire going in the fireplace and it might as well be an episode of Downton Abbey.

Hello, I have my Weekend Dog again. All is well.
