This. As I set out in a post, Trump is not a 'transactional' politician, but an anti-transactional politician. Those pundits that trot out that he is 'transactional' don't get his approach to supposed deals. His MO is breaking deals not making them. My post: emptycity.substack.com/p/why-donald...

Proud to be British this evening.

Lovely put down…….. Quite humiliating…… Love it……

How lucky it was for the world that America then had a president who understood the powerful symbolism of a democratic statesman living in a war zone dressing in a way appropriate to an existential struggle for freedom on the frontier of western civilisation. Now, not so much.

The Ukrainian government has a list of places where you can donate to the war effort here. I personally just donated $100: war.ukraine.ua/donate/ Slava Ukraini.

Wish I were one of Elon's kids so I'd never see him again

You can put Telegraph in the same bracket as the Morning Star when it comes to prioritising the interests of foreign authoritarian regimes over British and European interests

NEW: A moment in Munich. Zelenskyy says Russia is creating 15 new divisions of 150,000 soldiers: "Maybe these soldiers are for Ukraine. Maybe they are for you.” He ends hoping for peace. A long, standing ovation. What a contrast to Vance, met with silence as he torched transatlantic relations.

Good work George.

Macron is such a unique voice. What we have built in Europe since WWII is nothing less than miraculous. And it's worth defending against authoritarian forces internal and external - what system has proven itself to be greater? And we are part of that though not in the EU.

Fuck me, no way. I wonder what it is about the Sieg Heil guy's leadership that led to this outcome.

It's Migrant Voice's 15th anniversary later this month. It's all organisations that allows immigrants to speak, rather than always being spoken about. They're hosting a two day conference in London, where I'll be chairing the first event. Come along www.migrantvoice.org/whats-on/mig...

Reminder - there is a once in a generation opportunity to recruit the best US brains fleeing Trump

This is excellent.

There it is. Any British people still backing Trump are backing a threat to the independence of a Commonwealth country.

Like other economists I'm being asked to comment on Trump tariffs. We should do so - it's our job. But first we should make the point stated eloquently here by @alanbeattie.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/c26b...

Posted without comment.

Well, obviously honouring people who helped save lives by ending wars or solving crimes whatever their gender, colour, sexuality or health status, is simply wrong Only straight white men should see their names & faces in honour rolls Let's make America 18th century again when everything made sense

The UK thought it could leave the EU and still call the shots. Five years on, reality has set in. Dr Daniele Saracino unpacks the UK's weaker negotiating position.

National Trust will allow citizens to adopt plots of land at nature super-sites around the UK. You can choose something chalky, peaty, meadowy, or even a bit of Celtic rainforest. This land is your land. inews.co.uk/opinion/uk-n...

A handy guide for this weekends RSPB #BigGardenBirdWatch

My settled conclusion? Too many people enjoy being gratuitously cruel to others. That’s the whole story.

Great point here. Trump is creating a hostile environment for talent that leans liberal. We can't pay as well, but there are not school shootings and we aren't being run by anti science fascists.

There'll be time tomorrow to come to terms with what's happening. Tonight I think it's best just to get quite pissed.

This is George Monbiot's "X" leaving speech, and wow ❤️ @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Le Monde stops posting on the other place 👇

Nerds: One of the best comics podcasts out there is on BlueSky. Been listening to this for well over a decade now, every week is a delight.

Tomorrow BRLSI are hosting an event focused on securing a better future for women and girls. Inspiring activist, Professor Emerita Gill Hague, will be covering the events that have shaped and challenged violence against women since the 1960s. It's not one to miss👇

Ooof. Elon Musk has become even more unpopular in the UK following his interventions on child grooming gangs Unfavourable - 71% to favourable 20%. That’s a -51 favourability rating. Genghis Khan level.

A fantastic piece by @iandunt.bsky.social And can I also say (counselling hat on) that watching what someone does rather than listening to their words is a great tactic in life with all those around you. Mute the bullshit, watch the action, it will tell you all you need to know about that person.

Women should indeed think twice in this circumstance because their potential alimony payments will be higher if they wait to divorce this unsupportive, fragile man-baby until after taking a higher paying gig.

This is gonna be fun…

Make yourself a cup of tea, sit down and let your jaw hit the floor. @iandunt.bsky.social and @dorianlynskey.bsky.social on Elon Musk. … you may need a couple of whiskey chasers to calm down.

Worried about #ElonMusk buying his way into UK politics? Think we need to take money out of our democracy? Help #DemocracyForSale's people-powered plan to #SafeguardDemocracy by taking this short survey: democracyforsale.co.uk/safeguard Please share. Thanks!

There's been so much debate about how a free media should deal with, and report on, Trump's bizarro world. @cnn.com has fallen at the very first hurdle. Absolutely fkn extraordinary.
