Shocking barriers to abortion access are coming to light in the Yukon. Physicians say that prohibitive costs, limited services, and stigma make obtaining abortion care challenging.

A new study about safe access zones cites Canada as a strong example that European countries can follow to pass their own laws protecting patients and providers. The study looks at 22 jurisdictions with these laws, including 7 Canadian provinces. (open access)

Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights urges all provinces/territories to follow Manitoba’s lead in implementing Pharmacare. Manitoba is the first province to sign onto the federal Pharmacare agreement, paving the way for free contraception, hormone replacement therapy and diabetes medications.

New Brunswick PC MLA Sherry Wilson, of the former Higgs government, is blaming the former Clinic 554 for not providing data to support its business case for funding. But she's anti-choice and had access to a study with the data. We call total bullshit. (article behind paywall, sorry)

The Opal Clinic in Whitehorse may have to move from the general hospital but don't want to because they would lose access to ultrasound care and security. The hospital has now offered some space inside the hospital but it's not big enough.

Dr. Emily Stuart of Vancouver Island Women's Clinic says that misleading anti-choice information and resources can “make patients feel guilty or judged for considering abortion, causing delays as people may need time to recover from the emotional distress caused by the interaction."

Some US physicians, mostly women, are seriously considering moving to Canada to practice there. They want to escape the political and anti-science movements in the US, and appreciate Canada's strong abortion rights, strict gun laws, and funded healthcare that puts people above profits.

The anti-abortion group RightNow is endorsing an extremist candidate for the Manitoba Progressive Conservative leadership. RightNow is known for grooming and supporting such candidates, both provincially and federally, in an effort to pass anti-abortion laws if they're elected.

Rachel Cairns, of Aborsh podcast fame, is remounting her solo show Hypothetical Baby in Toronto, exploring the complexities of deciding whether to become a parent. "These projects have been my creative focus for the past five years, and I want to share the journey behind creating them."

In a new novel by Rebecca Papucaru, a teenaged refugee chases stardom but finds her purpose in Canada's abortion-rights movement. Fleeing Chile after the 1973 coup, sixteen-year-old Paulina and her older brother Ernesto settle in Toronto.

Sociologist Tobin LeBlanc Haley at the U of New Brunswick says that harmful misinformation about abortion continues to circulate. It includes myths about the “moral character” of abortion patients, health risks, pathways to access, and the motivations of clinic-based abortion providers.

“The way contraceptive use has evolved over time has had major scientific and public health implications,” said Dr. Erin Brennand of Calgary. “Birth control education and awareness is really about giving people the knowledge and tools to make informed choices about their reproductive healthcare.”

Reassuring news!! Options for Sexual Health in BC has reached an agreement in principle with the provincial Minister of Health to maintain all their clinics for the coming year, and to continue discussions to design a long-term sustainable solution. 👏🎉

Shontia Sanders writes that the normalization of physical pain during menstruation and abortion have become socially and politically tied to womanhood, and are inherently patriarchal and misogynistic.

Liz Renzetti: "Canadians have resisted [Trump's] invitation to become the 51st state ...Around 90% of Canadians in a recent poll scorned the idea, for a variety of good reasons... Why would Canadians want to join a nation where half the population does not have control over their bodily autonomy?"

Manitoba's safe access zone came into effect today! “Whether you’re accessing reproductive care, recovering from a procedure or providing critical health care to Manitobans, this new legislation will make sure your safety and privacy is protected,” said NDP Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine.

Health Minister Mark Holland is calling on the federal NDP to give the government more time in power to sign bilateral deals on pharmacare that would cover the cost of birth control and diabetes medications. He expects more deals to be signed "very, very soon" but warned the process takes time.

A new study shows that Canadian prisons don't have a formal mandate to ensure access to abortion or contraception. Advocates question whether reproductive justice is even possible in correctional settings, because the services are so highly stigmatized.

Abigail Fishman writes that "To ensure equitable access to abortion care, Canada must address the systemic and logistical barriers that disproportionately affect rural, low-income, and Indigenous communities."

ARCC Executive Director Joyce Arthur says that despite the benign nature of some of these ads, they can still have a lasting impact "...because women , people who get pregnant, they see those messages, they recognize what they are... and it does feel like an attack on our fundamental human rights.”

Some promising news from BC: The new Health Minister Josie Osborne has promised that Options for Sexual Health "will have sustained funding” to keep their clinics open. But in other news, Abortion Care Canada has been denied funding - a huge blow to abortion access across the country.

A rape victim who was turned away from an event for sexual assault survivors at Toronto Metropolitan University due to her anti-abortion activism has reached settlements with the school and its student union.

"The ripple effects of the Global Gag Rule are immense,” says Frederique Chabot, Acting ED at Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights. “It’s a policy that turns its back on evidence-based healthcare, putting the lives of millions—especially women and marginalized communities—at risk.”

This is very very sad. After all the important history and battles for funded abortions fought by Clinic 554 in New Brunswick!! Then this INSULT by Deputy Mayor Jocelyn Pike: when asked if the city would take into consideration that the building once housed Clinic 554, she said "not at all."

The frequent use of graphic imagery by anti-choice extremists has sparked controversy at the University of Toronto. One student called the graphic images “an aggressive and invasive tactic” that “doesn’t promote healthy dialogue," and that generates discomfort and division instead.

Abortion Care Canada - formerly NAF-Canada - may have to shut down! The government has denied its recent funding proposal to help Canadians access abortion. Other groups also had funding denied or cut back. This is devastating for repro rights and access in Canada!

"The hardest part to swallow is the US government’s supposed intent of 'protecting life,' when evidence shows...that restricting access to abortion...results in increased maternal deaths. It is inexcusable for Trump’s administration to wash its hands of the devastating damage this will do."

What do Trump's actions mean for Canada? Leading up to our own federal election where a Conservative leader seems the likely outcome, Rabble Radio asks: what is the state of reproductive rights in Canada – and what’s at stake in the upcoming election? (30 minute podcast, with Joyce Arthur)

A reminder that these are our local Crisis Pregnancy Centres (CPCs). Haven & Birthright Victoria are both religiously affiliated with anti-choice agendas. Thanks to @abortionrightscan.bsky.social for creating the AntiChoice.ca resource! Need a pregnancy test? We can help! #abortionsupport

Is Canada a "safe" place for trans and gender-diverse people, as Immigration Minister Marc Miller claims? Yesterday, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said he's only aware of "two genders" with an arrogant smirk on his face.

Abortion care, gender-affirming care, and sexual health care saves lives. These facts don't change based on who is in power -- but access and rhetoric do. We will keep fighting for our rights, and standing in solidarity against attacks on reproductive justice everywhere.

So excited about the new season of Aborsh! 🎉🎧
